Elm creek
From MORC Wiki
{{TrailReview
The mountain bike trails at Elm Creek are a fine beginner-level ride. Aside from a few short but steep hills, there is very little technical challenge in these wide multi-use trails. It's a great place to get your tires dirty for the first time.
If you are an experienced mountain biker looking for a challenging single track, look elsewhere.
The southern sections of the trail (SW of the chalet) are somewhat difficult to follow even with the trail map and be aware that most of this area is just mowed grass (no hard-pack).
Other sections of the trail you will find a mix of grass and hard-pack, although the hard-pack tends to be a thin strip within a wide mowed grass path, and the occasional gravel rut (not big ruts) at the bottom of some of the hills.
The mountain bike trails in Elm Creek are shared hiking trails, with some sections shared hiking/horse and hiking/dog, so be very alert if you are riding fast in an attempt to add some challenge. Also beware of trail crossings and intersections with non-biking trails. It is recommended that you carry a trail map with you on your first go-around, and be attentive to trail signs as it can be very easy to miss a turn and end up on a section of trail that prohibits bikes. The newly-added frisbee golf course is another item of which to be aware. Watch out for flying frisbees and frisbee golfers on the move. These trails do not get a lot of use and the golfers, I'm sure, are not use to seeing many mountain bikes zip by on these trails. Give a shout or ring your bike bell if you see other park patrons ahead, better safe than sorry.
When you out-grow these trails, check out the more challenging trails in the metro area listed on MORC's site. And keep checking MORC's site for updates on the proposed new single track mountain bike trail for Elm Creek Park as construction is anticipated to start in 2010 or 2011.
Enjoy!
