To hesitate is a waste of time.
The twin lakes singletrack portion of the Laddies Loppet course is open for riding. There was 1-2 feet of snow covering the trail this winter, preventing frost from going down and with no traffic on the trail during the winter to compress and shoot frost farther down in the ground, the trail has dried up amazingly fast thanks to recent warm weather. There might be a few greasy spots but riding with the fat bike yesterday, the loop was 97% rideable. The ski trails are still closed as there are still patches of snow and frost farther down from grooming compaction but should open within a week or so as well as the remaining singletrack. Also, we will be doing a Spring Opener mountain bike race on May 26th. More details to come.
Thanks for comments and to everyone who supported our event. We appreciate it very much. We are reviewing the race this coming week and hope to be back on the series next year!
Here is recap posted on skinnyski with link to photos if you haven't seen already. Thanks to Adam and Todd for posting the photo links in other post.
Thanks again to the Richards family and the entire Maplelag crew for another outstanding ride/race/eating/lodging/family weekend!
The new singletrack is as good as it gets.
We're blessed with some excellent race venues in this state. Maplelag is uniquely-magnificent for its fun-factor, length and creativity.
As was mentioned above: If you've never tried this race, it's a must-do.
I agree. Best "scene" on the MNMBS trail. Thanks Jay and crew...I appreciate all the work you all put in to make this great event. For those of you who have never done this weekend event, you need to get up there. Beautiful place too...I want to check out those caboose cabins!

Greetings awesome mountain biker people!
Thanks again to everyone that has locked in plans to move the wheels to Maplelag for the Loppet weekend. We are stoked for another action packed weekend, in particular, to have the twin lakes singletrack part of the course this year. The pulaskis have been swinging like crazy trying to dial in the flow and purpose built thing. It isn't perfect but still some sweet riding. Twin lakes stuff is not quite as demanding as the original loppet loop so makes for a sweet ending to the lap. We won't be moving any more dirt as it is super dry and the dirt is like moon dust. Rain forecasted middle of the week which would be awesome. Don't worry posting if the race will be canceled because all systems are go unless a freak Labor day blizzard or or something else of that nature.
Jonell ordered tambourines and other racket makers so race fans be ready to make some noise!
Thanks to everyone that has made a reservation and confirmed lodging and camping spots for the Laddies Loppet weekend. We still have a few cabins/rooms avail and also camping with meals and camping only spots.
You won't want to miss this years race as we will be including the new Twin Lakes singletrack in the Sport Comp Expert loop. With the new trail, the loop is around 10 miles. Sport will be doing 1 lap, Comp and Ex Women 1.5 laps and Expert men 2 laps. Lap times should be in the 50-60 min range. We are excited to add this new trail. It does include a road crossing from the original Loppet loop but thanks to the Prairies Edge Nordic Skiers, we will be patrolling the crossing for a clean and safe race. Please be aware when driving in the main driveway.

Best of luck to all riders the next few races! Looking forward to Labor day Weekend!
