    Date Posted: 02-24-2017 @ 05:55 AM

Details:  All Theo trails remain closed.

The snow storm of the century just waved as it went buy from the south metro and points further south. The only flake Theo saw so far was me putting up new signs the last few evenings.

The foreseeable weather forecast is much more Spring than Winter with temperatures at or above freezing in the current 10-day.

We regretfully suggest working on getting those paved base miles in while the opportunity presents itself.

Details:  Don't let sunshine & warm temps (and the lack of snow in your front yard lure you onto the trails) the trails are not even close to ready yet. The recent weather is very deceiving and NOT a good indicator of trail readiness. The temps have been warm, but the sub-surface frost has hardly begun to give way. That has a huge impact on trails! What's happening above the surface does not tell the story of what's going on below the surface. A better indicator is lake ice. About the time area lakes lose their ice is roughly the same time area trails are ready for the summer dirt season. As always, help protect our valuable trails - Never ride, run, or walk on wet or muddy trails.

    Thank you!

    Details:  Way CLOSED!

I was just out there on a mission and it is a muddy mess. Not just a little muddy. It is all the muddy.

All gates are closed...THANK YOU Tom!

Pavement riding is going to need to be your thing for what will likely be an unknown extended period of time.

It will need to be below freezing non-stop for a couple days in a row before we re-open.

Details:  Same as previous post. Ice Ice Ice. Studs and padded body armor recommended. If you missed Crashed Ice in St. Paul last weekend then Theo is your place right now. It's a fun but tense ride.

Details:  The trail is 95% glare ice. Don't venture out unless you have studs. Theo didn't get any snow yesterday, so don't assume other trail updates apply. That said, if you have studs it was pretty fun!

Details:  Calling it Icy. Studs, studs or studs will likely be an excellent choice.

If if you venture out and can update with more detail, please do.

Details:  Reports from one of the crew yesterday afternoon is that the south facing trails are already exposed and muddy. Not good.

Please stay off until we post otherwise. It looks like two days of Spring temps and then we can go back to skate fest.

Details:  Hey guys just a heads up for those going to ride, I did ride all of this on a 2" MTB and the north loop was fine to ride it is still pretty good as previously mentioned with maybe a little bit more icy spots, as for Glenwood it was pretty decent except for the southbound berms the are muddy on the high sides, and bit a ice as is to be expected, Southwirth trail, most of the pumps heading south are pretty slick as well and going downhill they can be a bit scary, I was doing all of this on a 2" MTB, so no studs or fat tires, I wasn't going to risk a few of them and just walked down, and lastly Brownie Trail well it wasn't too bad until getting to where the Double Blacks are between all of them on the mainly trail it is getting very muddy, I would advise trying not to make a total mosh pit of it. That's pretty much it have fun and ride safe!

Details:  Rode just the North Loop 3 times this AM. Flowbeist, Dunderbeist, 4 and 5psi post ride pressure. No studs. Plenty of packed, fast, grippy areas. The problem is that there are few spots where the snow isn't adhered to the ice exposing icy areas which are glare ice, super slick. Manage your braking and pedaling well so we don't lose the snow over the ice. There are also quite a few areas that melting and re freezing - these are pretty rough and grippy for the most part. Probably sun hit areas. One area had a big puddle. So, overall a great ride but watch out.

Details:  Yay! Theo is full open thanks to the hard work of a couple of the Brownie Crew.

    Thank you Eric and Jimmy!

    Please use caution.

It is very likely that our nice new coating of the white stuff is doing an excellent job of covering up the old layer of Icy stuff. Studs and/or extra caution are highly recommended.

We know you are going through Theo withdrawal, but please stay off if it gets much above freezing to help preserve what we have.

    Thanks much!

    Date Posted: 01-21-2017 @ 07:29 AM

Details:  I was out in Brownie and the North Loop yesterday closing the last of the gates and planning for installation of the signs that will go on all the new gates that Trail Source installed in Glenwood, Southwest Wirth and Brownie Lakes. I had failed to bring my Yak Trax (traction aids for shoes) and that was a mistake. To say that my two hikes were an #icycrapshow would be an understatement.

The gates are closed which means all Theo trail sections are closed to ALL users.

When that changes is completely up in the air and totally dependent on how much....or little....death and destruction Mother Nature brings to what white stuff remains on the trails now.

Cross your fingers. Hope for snow. Lots of cold, white fluffy snow.

Details:  Trails will be closed during this warm weather stretch. Hopefully the base will stay so that the trails are rid-able when it freezes again.

    Trail Condition: Packed
    Date Posted: 01-16-2017 @ 06:09 AM

    Details:  Packed....for now.

The weather forecast for the coming week(s) is not going to be very accommodating to our outdoor winter lifestyle at Theo.

Avoid riding when temps are above freezing will help preserve what base we have should real winter make a reappearance. The mushy ruts we create today make for frozen ruts when the temps drop...which are no fun for anyone.

If we start getting exposed, thawing trail tread, the gates will likely closed. Closed gates = closed trails for ALl users. Please honor any possible closures.

    Thank you!

Get out this morning if you are able.

Details:  As Steve said, trails are mostly vecro-y goodness. I rode South first and last (as the sun was starting to set) and in the ~1 hour in between did see more ice showing through on a few of the corners, steeper up and down hills in South.

A rider with super-skinnies (like 1.5" or something, I tried to look when I passed him) cut a nice trench in the North trails. Didn't look like he was having that much fun anyway.
