This past Thursday evening 11-20-03 Dale Gundberg, James Cassell and myself had an opportunity to present our case for mountain bike trails in a park in Washington County.

Understand that this is in the preliminary stage but in some instances we have been able to move quickly once we get the chance to present our ideas on building sustainable trails.

James Cassell did an excellent job of contacting Washington County Parks director Jim Luger. James had established a level of trust with Mr. Luger that allowed us to get on the agenda of the Washington County Parks advisory commission.

We presented our powerpoint program and answered questions. The entire presentation took about 45 minutes. None of the questions that were raised after or during the presentation brought up any obstacles that we were not able to answer or overcome. Overall I felt the commision seemed supportive of our proposal. We will be discussed again in January which we hope will lead to a recommendation that our proposal be presented to the Washington County Commisioners.

Mr. Luger seemed to supportive of our efforts. His support would be key to our gaining access to the parks land in Washington County.

At this time this information is just that---information. We will post more on this forum when we feel their is a need to contact the commissioners urging their support of allowing access to mountain biking in Washington County.

This is an example of what can happen when just one person gets involved and contacts the politicians from their area and asked to discuss trail access. I offer one huge ATTABOY to James Cassell.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Because of some negative incidents surrounding races, road races got kicked out of Washington County, so any inroads you guys make with county officials for bike riders of any kind is progress.... great job!!

Washington County makes up the eastern portion of the metro along the St. Croix river/Wisc. border. It's pretty long in the north-south direction. The northwest corner is Forest Lake. The northeast corner is Scandia/Marine on St. Croix. It then follows the St. croix south until it joins the Mississippi near Hastings. The southern and western border is the Mississippi and Ramsey county respectively.

I guess it could have been stated more succinctly. What can I say, I'm a geography geek by trade. :)
