View Full Version : Tensioner Needed
I am finally having those pesky gears and shifters removed from my old rigid bike (the commuter for now).
Anyone have a chain tensioner laying around that needs a home?
Doug at St. Paul Cycles is doing the dirty work, and doing his best to keep the $$ down.
PM me if you've got the smack.

if you don't mind a little weight, just use an old derailer. they work just fine as a tensioner once you have it adjusted correctly.
might be heavier than a surly, soulcraft, forge etc. but it would be free.
and a cheap way to figure out if the SS life is for you.

Stupid chain tensioners soured me on SS for quite a while. I'd suggest doing it right with one of the Soulcraft tensioners if you're going to do it at all.
I modified an old derailier by cutting off the bottom pulley then giving the top a big twist to add tension to the chain. It worked and was silent. I also sanded off the Shimano logo just to be THAT way.
