Fall is here then comes cold and white weather which some of us dread so it's time for the Minneapolis mountain bikers to hit the dirt before it's like cement.

Currently there are about 5 riders who are going to Cable, WI this coming weekend
along with some early birds like Dirk, Ivan and I who are heading up there this Friday,
Oct 3rd. The trails in this area are the best in the Midwest IMHO, mostly if you like riding continues singletrack all day long. The travel time is only 2-1/2 hrs from Mpls.

The plan, if you want to call it that, is to camp at LAKE NAMEKAGON CAMPGROUNDS, Site #7. I am going to reserve one large campsite and we have room for a few more, but then let me know
if your interested and if you would like to have your own secluded campsite next to the lake then make reservations at http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/cnnf/rec/camping/cheq_11.html or (877) 444-6777.

Some domesticated people will be staying in motels. More lodging info can be found @: Cable C of C (htttp://www.cable4fun.com)
The nicest place to stay and is probably cheap right now is the
Garmisch Resort which is a Bavarian Resort with alot of foreign beer on tap. Garmisch Resort (http://garmischresort.com/)

The riding schedule will be determined over some beers and a bellowing fire. We definitely have to ride the trail with 30+ miles of continuous singletrack and Rock Lakes new tight singletrack and.... ok I am getting a little too excited
so I'll see you in the bush as the Australian's would say.

If any questions or ideas come up, let me know and I will try to answer them.

The rumor going around is that most mountain bikers are ax murderers. Ok, now that I got your attention, don't be scared to through down some cold beers and have some biking with a bunch of wanna be bikers. I know I can't race since I am so slow plus its just too darn organized for me anyways.

Mark is the reigning 2nd place derby champion at ND-NAG so come just to knock him on his can. Bueller, Bueller...

Like I said yesterday...maybe. Gotta talk Lisa into it. She loves the NCT, but wants to go somewhere else. Something about heading up in that direction too much....?? We haven't been there for two years. We drove through this past summer, but thats different. I'll try to work my magic!

Some of us are heading up to Cable this Friday, Oct 3 and some are coming Sat. Morning. The Sat. morning ride should leave the campground around 10 AM depending on the night before. Sunday's ride will be about the same time after the preacher is done with his sermon.

The Cable bike attendees (so far):
Marty Larson (and Lisa?)
Sean Epp
Mark Gavin
Jen Grant
Dirk w/ 2-3 other friends.
Ivan
Jackie Carlson(maybe?)
Tom Lipinski

If I missed adding you to this list then let me know.

Here is some information which most of everybody probably knows but just in case here it is:

Directions to Cable, WI:

This is the way I have been taking after few tries with other routes such as the dangerous Hwy 8:

35 E North out of Cities
Hwy 70 East, which is the exit after Rush City
Follow this scenic route to Spooner.
Hwy 63 North to Cable.

I usually can make it there in 2-1/2 hrs from S. Mpls. with no stopping and a little speeding,
but I can resist stopping at Dennis Kirk's outlet store in Rush City.

Lake Namekagon Campground Info:

Directions from Cable:
Take a right(east) onto Hwy M.
Take a left onto Hwy D. (Namekagon Town Hall will be at the bottom of this hill on your right)
After many twists and turns in the road look for the Lake
Namekagon Campground sign(s) which will be on your left.
Use the map below when you get into the campgrounds.
In other words take a left when you see the registration
area cul-de-sac. (I have always wanted to incorporate this term into a letter)

Campground Maps:

I have campsite No. 7 reserved for Friday and Saturday night. Looks like the rest of them are now booked!
To the right of the attached map is the entrance which is considered CR 209 which connects with Hwy D.
Lake Namakagon Campground Map (http://www.reserveusa.com/jsp/commonpage.jsp?goto=/nrrs/wi/name/newindex.html)

Forecast looks a little nipply. Mostly on Saturday. The Hayward precip. forecast is not so bad so hopefully this will move north.

Hey gang

I just discovered that Telemark Resort offers a 2-night "Biking Fun" package for $92/person, based on double occupancy. Here is the description from the telemark web site (http://www.telemarkresort.com/trtest3.html) :

"Ride scenic trails and roads from Telemark's front door then come back for comfort, relaxation and dining. Bring your own bike or call ahead to rent and reserve a TREK bike. Includes two nights lodging for two, and a $50 credit towards food & beverage in the Outpost Restaurant or Baby King Haakon Bar & Grill. We'll have route maps and Telemark water bottles waiting for you. All packages include state sales tax, and local lodging tax. Based on double occupancy."

This rate compare very favorably with the standard rack rate of $79/$89 dollars per room, AND you get your choice of bed configurations without the upcharge. PLUS, the $50 credit ensures that much of your booze expense is hidden from the accountant......

Plenty of rooms available, electrical outlets to charge your headlight batteries, warmer than friggin' camping.

I'm all singled out and ready to go! Lisa can't ride right now, so she'll be stuck at camp. Thats the reason I asked for other non-riders to attend. She wants to go, but doesn't want to be by herself. Gimme a list of those attending that aren't riding, so I can tell her. We're gonna need loads of fire wood, thats for sure. Looks like it's gonna be, ummm, chilly. I'll have Chaco along too for those afraid of overly hyper trail dogs. He'll be going on shorter rides, not the NCT looong day.

Thanks everyone for an awesome ride. For everyone who didn't go, get up to Cable, the Ojibwe trail is some serious fun.
