View Full Version : Remember this???
This was taken about 8-10 years ago. For those of you who don't know this is where the raft is located on the Mn River Trails.
In the Spring some years the water was as high as the log.

Oh yeah. Stepping across that thing with a bike in my arms was definitely a little more of an adrenaline rush than I was looking for.

Yeah, that was when river rides were referenced to "the log" vs. to "the raft". I think "the log" even had it's picture in the tribune once. Occasionally people fell off the log into the water - especially when the east end was a bit under water....
Too bad we didn't do a better job of tying it down - it might still be there providing a needed service.

No offense to anyone who has helped with/Worked on the raft concept, but the log was a lot more convenient, IMHO. It could definitely have been made safer though.

I agree - I'd probably ride there more if the log were still there.
Or a bridge... ;)
(I just like picking on that dang raft..)

An important point when building any bridge, boardwalk, or structure that might be flooded or get extremely high stream flow - stake it down well or it will float away. The next big flood on the river bottoms will tell the tale on whether I've succeeded on this practice. If anything does float away, I'll use longer (and more) stakes next time.
