I'd like to pass along some sad new regarding Big Island State Park here in Albert Lea. The Esker Trail, the best trail to ride within an hour of here is being sacrificed for a paved trail. It is also my favorite trail to ride. They have already put gravel down and flattened out the biggest hill on the trail by raising the trail at the bottom by about 50 or more feet. And that was my favorite part of the trail. They haven't gone through the whole trail because it's a loop and they are just going to cut through to get to Hayward.
While riding today, I noticed a bunch of areas that are very overgrown on the trail and it makes me wonder if this new paved trail is going to be the replacement for the Esker trail. If that is the case, it would be a shame because the ride and the scenery of the Esker Trail is worth the ride if your a local from the area.
Just thought I'd pass this along. Anything like this happen anywhere else?
