Looking for opinions on the best seat. Am partial to the WTB V so far...Any opinions would be appreciated!

Oh geeze....you could start a battle here :)
Well my 2 cents would say Selle Italia Max Flite Trans Am Gel Flow
But......everyone is different and it did take me about 13 seats and many uncomfortable miles to find mine.
I say try what you like, but you have to realize that it takes at least 200 miles to "break" in your body to your seat and your seat to your body.....so its not a ride for 10 mile thing and change unfortunatly. Try a few at shops, most places should let you ride em around the store at least or put em on bikes to sit on to get a genreral idea.

Bontrager Race Lite, but seats are strictly a personal preference.

I'm really happy with my Selle Italia Trans Am, but like others have said, completly personal preferance. Everyones butt is different :etard:

I use the Selle Italia Trans Am as well.
I remember a few years back, Freewheel would let you buy a saddle and you could return it within 30 days if you did not like it - as long as it wasn't worn.
Other shops may do the same but I am not sure.

SDG - Ventura Comp Ti ... I recently switched over from the Specialized saddle that came with the bike. I found that after some hard miles, the saddle would get 'sticky' - from sweat. The SDG is more plastic like and doesn't get like that...

I have the specialized comfort plus saddle. I love that thing, it is the first saddle I have ever sat on where I don't go numb. It's probably a bit heavy for you racing guys and I'll admit it is a bit on the wide side and gets in the way a little when scooting back for the downhills. Wide butt, wide saddle:) But I don't have biking shorts yet, so I ride without padding on my rear and I can ride all day on this thing without discomfort or numbness (except for yesterday when I hit a tree so hard that I drove the seat into my groin hard enough to bend the rails - I don't think that's the seat's fault).

Just to prove the point about it being a very personal choice, I love the Fizik saddle on my Jamis, it is the most confortable stock saddle I have had.

What is the current thoughts on MTB seats?
I know many hard core roadies say a hard, leather seat is the way to go, and I can see their point if you're on the road a lot, but a rough trail is a different issue. I've been going to softer and softer seats and currently ride a cushy, split Specialized comp seat. Most comfortable thing I've ever riden on a trail, but it *is* uncomfortable on the rare occasion I take it out on paved trails for miles and miles.
Are MTB seats going more in the direction of cushion and padding, even for racing?

I have been sitting on some version of the Terry saddles for men.
I really like the Fly and Dragonfly saddles. When I switched to them it greatly the cramping in my legs and numbness in my quads.
But like everyone says, everyones butt is built a little different so saddle choice is very personal.

I like my Haro Dirt Jumping seat. It's very well padded. I used it for my Maah Daah Hey trip and I loved it. Comfort is key and I think these silly narrow seats are more a style thing than a practical thing........kind of like SUVs..............:)

I dig any of the Wilderness Trail Bike saddles with comfort zone protection, as that's an important zone to protect!

Selle Flite Gel Ti is the thingy I sit on. I have one on each bike nothing else seems to work with my butt very well. Numbing wasn't the issue it was more about joint pain. I must have tried 10 saddles in my first 3 years of riding. Maybe I spent to many miles on that plastic vetta seat that came with my mongoose as a kid:laugh:

Fizik Aliante- they're hella expensive, but damned comfortable for road or mtb. Pretty light, too. I actually like the Selle Italia SLR, too, but they're not as comfy for really long rides as the Aliante, and they tend to break. The Aliante is flexible where it needs to be, requires no break in time, and is still narrow and light enough to use on your race bike.
My current seat is the tioga multicontrol XL. big and comfy like an old sofa.
