View Full Version : A question on titles...

Just wondering what the titles are based on? For instance, "Bike Guru" or "Stumpjumper"..

Is it based on the number of posts you've made or how long you have been a member?

I think it would be cool to know the order and what the titles signify as I'm reading posts etc...

I think you get Bike Guru when you have posted more than 100 posts and Stump Jumper when you hit 30.

You would think it should be an inverse relationship... If you are typing more, that means you aren't spending that time out of the trail therefore how could you be a better biker????

Actually this was set up way back last November and I haven't really looked at it much since.

I have asked this before but nobody has ever given any feedback.. but I'm definitely open to adjusting the "titles" to something else and at different levels. Those were just names I pulled at a moments notice back when it was just me.. and me.. on the message boards.

I was going with the theme of progressing as a biker, but couldn't come up with more than 3. Perhaps we should have things like "forum addict" etc. added in.

Hard to say though - I'm guessing that some that have hundreds right now could be in the thousands by next year...

I think that we should change it so that if your username is zerpy your avatar is GOD. The systems at work remind me that I am GOD in my prompt whenever su to root to remind me of the damage I can so easily inflict.

rosewood -you are GOD- .../eda/bin-->

just kidding :)

Nah I wouldn't change anything. I just like to give some crap because the bike guru thing is kind of funny. I think I'm probably the least knowledgable person on the board about biking (at least that posts on a regular or semi-regular basis) yet I'm now a bike guru.

You can also manually change your title. (Notice mine)

I looked through the "user cp" and couldn't find where to change it? It's not really a big deal though...

I think you need a minimum of like 100 posts to get the priv of changing your own... ;)

Maybe you need more that 100, I couldn't find it anywhere in my user cp.

Maybe John disabled mine because he doesn't want me changing it to "GOD" :)

Hey, john, I vote that we be able to change our 'status'. It lends a certain individuality to who we are. I know that what the quote is for, but there are other boards that allow you to do this that I attend, and they're all funny as sh!t.

But if we don't have levels that are determined by the amount of posting, then shad and chris might not have proper motivation to start up flamin' political discussions that send everyone's post counters ticking through the roof...

Oh wait, that would be a good thing, nevermind...

I don't think we should be able to change out status. I think it's nice to have some sort of rating type system so people can easily indentify who is who.

I do think we need a better naming convention and it should change at 500 and 1000 too.

what? and make it a popularity contest to see how big a name you can get? It's pretty obvious to see who has more posts simply by looking at that number just below where you're from. And who is who? That's what names are for Shad!

I also disagree with a social caste system. It's much more fun to set your own and so long as it's not abused (I'm pretty sure the language filter applies) I see no issues with it.

There should be mods/admins and then there should be everyone else. Ranking is negative. Plus it encourages people to fill the forums with useless spam posts.

I don't want to be able to change them, because Dave will make me change mine to Tree Hugger......oh wait, he has no power over me, we are a free country......okay, we should be allowed to change them.....:)
