For having a huge, heated debate and not telling Shad and I about it!
Now it's locked. Well, thanks a lot.

Oh, uh ... to make this bike-relevant ... we should have a group "beater" ride. Everyone get together at Lebanon and ride their oldest, most beat-up POS bike! I've got an extra if someone needs it. :)

It's like that marathon running game - once you get over 1,000 posts, then it will unlock for you! :)
BTW - I'll need a POS bike from ya. Does that make me a snob, cuz I don't have a POS bike?

Wow, I get busy and miss some MORC time and see what I miss. What's the deal man. As much criticism as I may get sometimes, I never went that far. John closed that thread for good reason.
Someone needs to read what I said about posers and someone needs to realize what a poser truely is. As much as I see guys who ride really nice bikes, but don't jump the table, I at least understand why they don't do it. I come from a BMX background and can not expect everyone to just fly at the table at full speed and bust an X-Up, if I did that, I would be a fool for thinking everyone is capable of doing that or even wants to. If someone can afford a $3,000.00 bike and only wants to ride intermediate singletrack with a 105mm travel fork, who cares! They are probably enjoying themselves and that's all that matters.
Each person is into biking for whatever reason they want to be into it. As we have said here before, as long as you treat the trails with respect and follow some simple curtesy rules, no one should care how or what your ride.
Sorry John, you did close that thread for a reason but I had to get my 2 Cents worth.

There's a book out there I heard about on NPR (speaking of being a snob.)
It's all about American Snobbery (not the title ... but something like that.) Basically, everyone in America is a snob, or at least everyone can find something to be snobby about.
If you ride an expensive mountain bike, you can be a snob about how much money you spent on it and how superior your bike is. Conversely, if you spent $50 on a POS bike you can be a snob about how *little* you paid for the bike, claiming you didn't get ripped off like the $3K bikers.
You can be an environmentalist snob and brag about how much you recycle or shop at Whole Foods, or you can be a glutton snob and brag about how much gas your SUV guzzles.
You could be a middle-of-the-road snob and brag about how much more in-touch with Joe Sixpack you are than everyone else.
So, from now on, if anybody asks me if I think they're a snob, my answer is "Yes, but not as much as me ..."
:)

hehe.. not a problem. I got some emails from some people on the other thread wondering if "MORC" really thought "that way" about bikers... so I figured I'd close it out. I don't mind it being discussed at all - it is definitely an interesting debate. It actually has caused me to formulate many a long message, then end up not posting it... then think about it some more.

I got a little late in this, and I hate this, but I have to agree with Shad. ;)

This is what mountain biking is all about.
To those that e-mailed John, the message board administrator, the quote above is what I think every MORC/IMBA member truly feels.

Yeah i can see why you had to close it down, but you have to admit that there was some pretty good opinions that somewhat might have caused you to change your opinions on biking\bikers. See i think that we need more of those kind of posts up! The ones that cause you to double check your opinions!

I agree... thats why we closed it but didn't remove it.... I thought it was a good discussion myself - just took too much heat from some people.

These forums and just getting older have made me become a bit more open minded on biking. I never really liked the BMX snobs. There are alway's those BMXers that would not speak to you unless you could clear a certain jump or do certain tricks. You had to prove yourself to be a part of their crowd. It always reminded me of high school mentality. I decided to hang out with people who rode for fun and just enjoy the sport. We would get groups riding downtown and there would be riders with $1500 freestyle bikes who didn't do a thing, they just watched us ride. It's okay, they were there having a good time!
When I go to certain MTB trails, I see a similar thing sometimes. I see a group of guys who have all high end stuff and uniforms. I will ride by and say "Hi" and they don't even respond. It's like, I am not part of their group, so they don't want anything to do with me. But lately, I have been having a great time riding with Dave, Pat, John, and others with different skill levels and ideas about FS, HT or whatever. No one cares, we just go ride the trail and have fun.
I have a choice and I choose to hang with the cool crowd.......

Ok Folks....remember the ground rules here (Chris posted them a few months back): 1) It's ok to agree with Shad 2) It's not ok to let Shad know you agree with him 3) If you have a question refer to rule #2
Mtn biking is about having fun, pure and simple

You know, now that I think about it there is definately the "snobs" at Leb Hills, and what is funny is I don't think they are MORC or even IMBA members.
(BTW: Can you tell I'm back in town and catching up on the forums)

Yeah but what's even funnier is we usually pass those "cool" dudes out on the trail and hear them complaining about the trail (usually it's something about the trail being too difficult)
