Ya know, I keep hearing about how many of us(and I'm as guilty as the next) wanna go faster, and just rip it up, blazing down the trail. It is fun to see how fast you can go, to push your limits. It seems that this is what we're all in this sport for afterall.

Saturday was different though, I I went to the Farm with Lisa. we both went slow. I didn't push off of every berm. I didn't let go of the brakes on every downhill. Instead of pedalling harder, I coasted.

You know what? I really liked it. It was good to notice the small patch of moss growing at trails edge. I saw how all the use was effecting the lay of the land. The slower pace really showed how the flow at the Farm is effective at all speeds. Yeah, I didn't have wind blowing through my 'hair':eyeroll: , but all the same, it was a great ride.

Try it sometime. Go slow. See the trail. See the surroundings that we all ride through. Don't put yourself into oxygen debt tunnel vision for once. Just go for a nice cruise. It feels good!

Very good advice. I know I'm guilty of not doing more of this... and when I do it is funny how I notice things that I never would have otherwise. Like it took me over a year to see the fence that boarders the zoo at Lebanon... there is a lot to see and enjoy out on our trails.

I have always liked taking it easy sometimes. Sometimes it's just nice to ride your bike and not alway's be pushing the limits. This not only goes for riding at trails, but riding in general. One day, I just took a cruise around Edina and Bloomington. I saw roads I didn't know existed and I looked at houses in west Bloomington. I rode through the BMW and Mercedes lots to see the cars. I just had fun and I didn't ride fast at all. I was just on a cruise.......

Don't you mean the MINIs??! :D

This is a good point. There's so many things that we don't notice. It's like riding the same trail at night with a light - it's a totally different trail.

Yup, takin' it easy is a good thing. There's a lot to observe out there and taking the time to do it, is usually well worth the effort, or lack of, as the case may be. Ride a different line, stop and talk, eat some berries, build a cairn. Riding a little slower also allows you to become a more discerning and deliberate rider, rather than just plowing through things. AND it saves the trails. There would be a lot less stutter bumps from braking if people checked their speed a little more than 20ft before the next turn or just went a little slower in general. Just have fun out there!

Yeah, if I wanna take it slow I usually go on a group ride and stick with Socrates. Then you're REALLY going slow.
