I've been following the discussions on getting additional/new members to the MORC board. While I agree with the concept of getting new blood, some of us are not from the TC area. Have there been discussions to look at chapters or extension groups for those outside of the metro area?
For those readers not in the metro area, would you want to have a local forum to collect issues and items to bring back to the main MORC board?

Yup, this was discussed in another thread. MORC has been set up to allow for chapters to be set up around the state. I think this would be much better than trying to get board members that are out of the metro area.
I'd love to see chapters all over the state someday - all working together with a common goal, then one heck of a MORC celebration once a year bringing everyone together for some riding and celebrating of the years accomplishments.. ;)
It could happen! :p

That sounds great for everyone! More trails in more places and more happy riders.
What needs to be done to get something like a Chapter started? I would assume that it needs to be discussed amongst the board and approved?
Just curious.

A very good question. I think our current prez Steve would be the best one to answer - but I think you are right, it would just take an individual with enough initiative to come to the board and request a chapter. I can see the organization learning a great deal though the process of its initial chapter formation.

One thing I noted in the MORC by-laws was that the current wording states, "The board shall consist of zero (0) Chapter directors elected by members of their respective chapters, ...".
Further on in the by-laws, the wording for extension chapters is written as such that a chapter would be charged with carrying out the goals of the MORC board at a local level. Each chapter would have to have it's own board, funding, and conduct it's business in accord to that of the overall MORC board.
It seems that if a local chapter would be created, and it was to follow in the steps of the corporate MORC board, that representation on the corporate board would be imperative for a local chapter.
Any comments???

I think our Prez Steve could best answer this one since he was the one that got the current bylaws together.. but I would agree if there were chapters we'd want representation on the actual morc board from each one for sure.
I also wonder if we wouldn't want to have a local MORC chapter aside from the MORC board - like a metro chapter. I'm not sure they are supposed to be one in the same... maybe right now they are, but I think I could see the need for separation eventually if there were more chapters.
It is very interesting. I'd love to see morc grow and actually cover the entire state like it is designed to do. It would be too cool to see a southern chapter start up.

When we updated the Bylaws last year, we added verbiage for Chapters, to make it easier to add them in the future. At this point, there are no MORC Chapters, so there are no Chapter representatives on the Board. At such time as we add Chapters, we'll update the Bylaws as appropriate.
