If you had to give up one part of your bike, what would it be?

This one is too easy. Singlespeed! Who "needs" multiple gear choices.
Do I smell Shad thinking about swapping 'round some equipment on bikes?
I haven't ridden one yet, but I am considering turning my commuter into a singlespeed, or better yet, bulding one up from scratch!
It was a close vote between the gears and the pedals though. I figure I would be a little more agressive at riding a wheelie if I weren't clipped in. But since I don't do many jumps/drops, the gears are the first to go.

Although I am curious about SS, I can't imagine giving up gears all of the time, and I don't think I could live without anything else on the list except clipless pedals (and maybe wheels).

I do just fine without clipless pedals - so I guess thtat's not really "giving up" something.  Two bananas for platforms.

Well if I had to give up a part of my bike you might as well take the wheels cause I ain't gonna be happy about it

I had to race without a seat at a BMX race once. It was just in one moto where we had a big pileup on the first straight. My seatpost broke and I got up and got 1st without a seat. It was very weird riding without it and I wouldn't want to do it again. I actually use the seat for a lot more than just sitting (insert bad comment here).....see Riding Tips.

i could (and kinda have) give up gear changing. riding my SS has made me a much better rider while on my multispeed.
and for a write in, i could give up my suspension fork (and kinda have). my SS has a rigid fork, it REALLY makes you think about the line you pick, or you really pay for it.

I must say, i would have to go with grips. Depending on if you just had to give up something in general, or if you had to give up something and then go biking, but i would choose grips. With me and my big white butt, i am keeping the seat:laugh:

I voted grips. It seemed the less painful thing to do with out. My gloves would work just fine (when I have them - I can never seem to find them when I need them).

I just have to mention the fact that my first so-called "mountain bike" was a POS, and I've spent time riding without brakes (foot in the back tire), without a seat (just don't forget not to sit down :fool: ) without my right pedal (push on the crankarm with your toe, but climbing's a pain!), with 2 deraillers that don't shift, tires that were worn bald, and grips that slipped (alot!). That's everything on the list except the wheels. So I shelled out the cash for a decent bike...so nevermind...
Oh, and I voted for clipless pedals, providing I can at least use platforms.
