hey guys,
I'm headed out to Colorado for some riding and for the NORBA NCS at Durango mountain resort. I have my lodging all figured out except for the 3 days I am actually in Durango. The Super 8 there can get me rooms for 3 nights for something in the neighborhood of $200. Given that I am traveling by myself, this is far too much. Hostels.com said that there are 2 hostels in Durango but I got phone numbers for both and apparently both are out of business.
I'd prefer to not have to bring camping equipment just for 3 days in Durango. The rest of the time....
2 days with friends in Boulder
2 days at the Crested Butte hostel
3 days in Durango.... ?
2 days at my brother's in Golden
so obviously bringing camping equipment for 3 days doesn't exactly strike me as being what I want to do. Obviously I'm traveling by myself so low cost is key.
Any ideas? Anyone with friends? **wink**

Hoping to have somewhere to crash relatively close (within ~1 hour drive) to Durango Mountain Resort for the evenings of the 13th, 14th, and 15th....

We do have a franchise in Durango but it's already sold out for those days (looks like something is going on that weekend but I can't tell what)...we have another hotel in Farmington but that's about 41 miles from Durango and I'm not sure it would be worth the drive
I'd take the $67 rate (sounds high for a super 8 but still not too bad)
Sorry I couldn't help

Another idea to try....give priceline.com a try and bid around $45-50 (don't listen to it when it says that too low)...if it's not accepted then you aren't charged...if it is you'll be charged $45-50+ take plus around $7 processing fee

No, but I'm jealous.... that sounds like a sweet trip! Hit 401 and Bear/Flag/Dead while you are in CB...
Hey, you know when I was in Durango for the Bicycle Tour of CO, we crashed up at Fort Lewis College and it was way cheap. I'm not sure if they just rent out the dorms all of the time or what, but it might be worth checking out. I want to say we got them for $15 or $20 per night.

I was gonna say camp, buuuut, then I read what was goning on. Can't direct you any better than David. Other than to say, camping gear really doesn't take up THAT much room. I'd almost rather camp anyways. Enjoy the trip! I wish I was going with you....
I've stayed at the Days End hotel there and it was pretty good. Cheaper too.

If you have any riding time to spare when you're in the region, get down to Farmington & try the road apple trail. I can imagine where it got it's name, but I didn't encounter any messiness.

Cheap place to stay?
Do like the europeans do; stay at a hostel.

Can't go wrong at $15/night.
Well, maybe you can.....

ok, so I am almost back to minnesota.... (at my aunt and uncles in neb)
I wound up finding a camping spot at one of the closest nationaly forest service campgrounds to durango. The weather pattern was horrible, I wound up sleeping in the car two nights out of three because the tent was getting too wet. I don't think I'll ever camp again when I am racing just because it's more stress during the tuneup for a big race than I care for. Not like it would have mattered though.... racing through almost 200 feet of climbing per lap at DMR just about killed me. Props to all the minnesota people that raced out there... when I was out there, I saw Jesse rients, the Millers, doug swanson, Bill O' and a whole bunch of MNJRC kids. racing at that altitude with relatively little acclimation takes guts.
wish I would have known about FLC. I would have totally stayed there, though the haul up to DMR would have been vicious.
I stayed in the hostel at CB, and looked into them in Durango but unfortunately both went out of business.
I';ll write up a thread in the out of state rides section when I get home detailing all my rides, but in short, in CB I did:
401
Upper Loop
Upper Upper Loop
Green Lake
Strand hill and strand bonus
and I wish I could have stayed another two days to do more.
anyway.... thanks for the words everyone. I'm gonna test my lungs at murphy on wednesday night I think, right after I get home.... :D
