With the 12 and 24 Hour races coming up I was curious to everyone's eating habits. I have read a bunch of sites that tell you all the ideal things to eat and drink before and after each lap and so on. But I was wondering how everyone here eats? Do you have favorites, secret recipes, preferences of eating certain things at certain times??

I think this year I will try a new scientific diet that was rumored to be used by the top riders in the tour this year...... White Castle, Crispy Cremes and Coke

Every rider is different and you have to listen to your body. I have my stds. that I eat/consume but what works for you may be different. In Solo races I am much more detailed on what I eat and monitor caloric intake along with expenditure using a HRM.

My stds. are Cytomax (1/3 dillution) in a water bottle. WATER, WATER, WATER, WATER. I also use GU to give me extra little enerby bursts. For real food, Peanut Butter, Honey, basic high potassium fruits.

Not getting into the details of everything, I personally think that the MAIN issue that I see with people having huge problems out there is that they CHANGE their diet for the race. Your body has to go through all kinds of new things and it sometimes backfires! So either go with what you normally eat when having a big day or riding or start now (assuming Afton is your goal) with what you want to get to.

Not sure if that makes sense or not..???

Sorry! I had to laugh at that. I know what you mean though. You don't want to suprise your body by giving it all these really weird foods all of a sudden. Ease into them. I don't usually eat too many specific foods for a race. Right before the last race at Duluth I had two Clif bars and a slice of pizza. I would guess that at something like a 12 or 24 hour race you'd want to also bring some foods with substance so that your body can use it more effectively. I dunno. Just a guess.

Do you think you could get Krispy Kremes delivered nice and hot?!! :)

Took me a while to figure out what was funny about that! (not too quick today) Too much of the engineer left in me!

Krispy Kreme's delivered hot in the morning! No clue how it would work, but I wouldn't be the one holding back!

Adam, are you riding at Afton this year? By any chance with Shane P.?

Ha haaa! you laugh - it works! The bread is a good source of carbos and the peanut butter "sticks to your ribs" while the syrup gives you the sugar boost needed for the sprints.

Wait till I start makin' 'em on the grill......Mmmmmm
then you can have a couple every lap!

Afton is still up in the air for me...... it's looking more and more bleak however. I may have to just be a spectator this year. Sorry guys.:cryin:

Who's Shane P? I know two Shanes, and one of em' started this thread. The other one I can't remember his last name? Does he work at SuperValu?

I remembered as soon as I finished posting!
I haven't talked to him all summer. We rode at The Farm earlier this year (I think it was this year!). We haven't done the Afton race in awhile.

Are you ridiing with him this year??

Prevost is it!

I am riding with him this year, and his brother, but I am not sure who he has as a fourth rider. He had mentioned that you had guys had raced in the past... So wasn't sure if it was you or not!

With me being new to the area, I jumped at the opportunity to ride!

It was the first time for all of us when we rode it and it was a lot of fun. I think I slept for like 30 minutes the whole time. There was too much going on!

I don't remember what we had for food, but I think it was a little bit of everything. People brought food for us and we made food. It was great.

Good luck out there!
