Hey trail crew! Jan, John, James, and others. I went to the farm last weekend and loved the jump that they have. It is a great place to ride. I thought that a jump at lebanon could be a possibility. I know it wouldnt be something to look at this year but maybe in the future to come. Lebanon is a great place with out it but I thought, hey the logs that you get air off of are not the best because of them getting warn down so much, so why don't we put a jump like the farms in at lebanon!

We kind of do already have a jump or two. The tabletop is a pretty good one. There are some other logs and areas where you can get air.

I like jumps in any form, but really like the ones that some people can jump and some can just roll over.

I'd maybe like to see another tabletop or other types of jumps go in somewhere at Leb.

I'm not sure we'd do a ramp type jump like at the farm though. It is fun, but quite dangerous the way they have it. It looks like a bridge from up top the hill and I know of many that have hurt themselves really bad on it. If we did something, we'd definitely make it fun but safe.

(thats why people should always ride the farm with someone that knows. not only knows, but makes a good guide as well)

There are more jumps out there than meet the eye.

I think a jump at lebanon would be a great idea or another tabletop but the more air the better!!!:crazy2:

John,
You have a great point. I just think that there are some spots like on the old expert loop where you can't go fast because right away you need to put on the brakes and turn right way.

If you guys are building a new trail maybe put a table top or good pile of logs that you can get a lot of air on when you start at a high point and come to the jump like the farm.:)

I like the table top on the XX loop at Lebanon... you can get some serious air on it - and have a place to land. The ramp at the farm is fun, but a little freaky the first time.

If I remember right at Hillside (haven't been there this year yet) there are a couple of small steep mounds that you can get some cool air off of. They are usually at the bottom of descent, so you can get a little speed. Something like that might be fun...

As the Lebanon Hills Trail Steward, my dream has always been to add a lot of opportunities for air time. The table-top was my first attempt at building a dirt jump. Turned out OK, but I wish there was more downhill leading into it.

My next attempt at jump construction will be a series of jumps in succession (like on a supercross track, but smaller of course). Now that we have determined that the type of dirt at Lebanon can pack in hard enough to handle abuse that a jump gets, I'm ready to build!

The only things that could delay things, are the two fully- constructed teeter totters sitting in my back yard, waiting for County approval for installation at Lebanon.

I'm sure that we'll be adding more stuff to the trails every month. It will only get better.

Ride on.

How about a roller? Like the one at murphy. That way, you wouldn't have to get air if you didn't want to. But you could also could get some air, and distance.

Just thinking like a snowboarder ;)

-brett I love rollers over jumps!

The rollers sound like a great idea! Anything that you can get some air on will always be dangerous, but keep in mind that's the risk you take when you go on jumps. If you're not willing to take that risk then ride around it.

first time i hit the roller at murphy with speed, I almost wet my lycra. But now thats my favorite part.

Great idea. I have not been to that murphy place but that sounds cool. The logs get pretty boring. Lebanon could use some parts where you you go and jump and go and jump.

If you ask me I say we don't wait for the dumb approval by Dakota County. Believe me, I live 1/2 a mile away from lebanon and the way they come together on approving things, we won't have the teeters in until next year.

It is time for us all to take a stand and pitch in a few bucks and take over the trail.(I wish we could)

We do need something other than logs and a table top that you don't have a down hill descent on.:geek:

If you ask me traildale has a great point on what we need and what is possible for this trail.

By the way since when is a three feet high jump scary. I am a fourteen year old who has broken his arm three times; you guys range from 20- wherever. Have you ever seen one of those movie where they have those guys jumping of bridges and cliffs now there is something scary. Not a THREE FOOT JUMP.

Scott,

One thing you'll learn quickly is that we must wait for their approval or we'd risk loosing the trail for everyone...yes is )(*@#$)'s that we have to wait but if it's that or never ride it again I'll wait

David: You're absolutely right. The County has a masterplan for each park, which is a huge task to develop. It has to do with environmental studies, wildlife studies, meetings with all users, etc.

To have renegades in the park building stuff would put an immediate halt to all trail work.

We had an instance of this earlier this season as a guy fell and was knocked unconsious and shreaded on a rocky downhill. When a couple of members of the park staff came to investigate, they found the Intermediate By-pass that goes down by the zoo. Being unfamiliar with the plan, they erroneously reported that MORC had been building unauthorized trails. The call came in immediately to halt all work. It took Trail Dale and his excellent record keeping and documentation to show that these were authorized trails.

So, as much as we want to go full speed ahead, we need to be patient and allow time for things to pass through the proper channels.

Besides, when people show up for trail building on Tuesdays or REI Saturdays (thanks Scott, Denis (alias Kenny) and more than once Eric) there's always more than enough other fun stuff to put in....John and crew threw a couple more drops in tonight.

And regarding some rollers....we're looking for a place for a couple.

...is another man's....blahhhhhhhhh.

I think MORC does a great job of accomodating riders' skills within the confines of the park system. I'd love to see Porky Rim replicated around here, but alas, it ain't gonna happen partner.

All it would take is one soccer mom leading her kids out on the trail on 10-speeds without helmets to ruin the good times for all. In fact, I nearly witness that every time I'm out a Leb - clearly inexperienced riders poking their noses/wheels down the X and XX loops.

I want to say something, but don't unless they ask "...what's this trail like..." Playing the role of Big Brother is not my style - just let me get ahead of you. Social Darwinism at its finest.

Personally, I think a set of rollers and/or successive drops would be perfect on the DH run-out post the rock garden area in the new XX section. Plenty of gravity fed speed to be had. I'm sure some guys can launch off the existing TT, but the lip seems too steep relative to the run-up shooting you up but not so much out-and-over the jump. Oh well, practice makes perfect.

Too much work, too little chamois time,

Sean

We're debating something on that downhill. I think something could be done that would not disrupt the flow of the downhill at all. I hear a lot of "weeeeeee!"s when people go down that one - a great example of a fast downhill not built straight down a fall line. Nothing big, nothing major... just something subtle but interesting. Maybe.

The tabletop could probably use a bit less of an abrupt lip. I think we thought it would pack itself down more than it has. Perhaps we can talk Shad into coming out and helping us shape it a little more. Probably just a few minutes of work would make it just a little less abrupt. I too would like to be able to hold more speed over it. Then again others might like how it shoots you up with little effort.

Always up for debate I guess. We only have a couple trail work sessions left before our August "off" month, then we'll probably turn our attention away from XX for a while.
