Went out to BC for a dusk ride last night... Trails were in great shape except for two spots... one in the upper trail system and the other in the lower.

First, there's a steep narrow descent just before the ravine that used to be like a dirt "chute". When I came zipping down there last night, there were suddenly big rocks in the trail. Looked like a work in progress so I assume it is destined to be landscaped for some erosion protection. But maybe a bit of warning (temporary sign?) would be in order for riders used to the fast descent there. I just about endo'd on them.

The second spot is the tight turn/drop just before you dump out on the paved trail in the lower system. The rubber matting is getting pretty chewed up and there are deep ruts in the dirt now. Ride-able but getting destructive and potentially dangerous.

Just FYI.... not a complaint! The trails are great... raining today though.

Cheers.

Yup, they are working in that area. Check the trail work thread in this forum for more information on whats happening there. You are probably right in that a sign might be nice if there is something out of the ordinary in the way.

Steve G - if you read this, maybe a caution carsonite and something with our web site address so people know where to check for more information (and perhaps where to get involved and help out etc.)

Thanks for your thoughts..

yeah, maybe a "Caution - trail work in progress" sign at a point 100 yards up the trail or something...

I appreciate your work.

Cheers.

Where are the rocks?

Imbedded in the trail for the most part.

It's on a descent that I have heard called the "southern crossing" It runs parallel to battle creek road on the upper side but it's in farther than the ski trail. That probably wasn't a whole lot of help

I think I know what you are talking about. It is probably what we called #1 since it was the first of three lefts that you could take heading downhill from the clearing that is close to the "overlook". Does it cross the ski trail at the low point then eventually lead you in to Fern Gully?

Bingo... this is the one I am talking about:

"It is probably what we called #1 since it was the first of three lefts that you could take heading downhill from the clearing that is close to the "overlook".

For more expert riders, these rocks wouldn't be an issue. It just caught me by surprise cos I am used to just bombing down that section and when I saw the rocks, I had to adjust my speed (i.e., I locked up my brakes). if I knew they were coming, I would have approached with caution and could have negotiated the area probably.

Good to keep riders on their toes. :)
