Last night we were finishing the weekly Battle Creek trail maintenance project, which consisted of hauling a load of big rocks from Gravity Lab to Battle Creek, for a rock garden/wheelie drop section to be built to correct a badly eroded trail segment. It was dark and we had just about finished unloading the rocks outside a gate on an old park access road, when we noticed a car that stopped and turned around to watch us in his headlights. When we finished unloading the rocks, Jeff went over to ask the citizen if there was a problem, and to explain what we were up to. Turns out the citizen had just reported us to the police for suspected illegal dumping!
A cop pulled up with lights flashing (no siren, no drawn gun) just as we had finished putting away our pry bars and closed up the truck. Not to worry though, as Steve, our smooth talking trail boss and MORC president, quickly convinced the nice lady that we were legitimate. Now I hope that nobody steals our rocks.
By the way, those rocks were pretty heavy for a crew of three strong guys and one old man with a bad back. Stop on out & join the fun of building something enjoyable to ride, 6:00 PM almost every Thursday, main parking lot at Battle Creek.
