View Full Version : Show me the Farm
I'd love to get out to ride the Farm one of these days.
Perhaps there are others who have not been out there, and still more riders yet that want to show off their intimate knowledge of the trail.
Here is one vote for an early morning ride this Sunday, June 15.

I can't make it sunday,
but I know this really cool group of guys from Bent Crank Racing who are going to be there on Tuesday evening, the 17th at 6.30. :D :D
I know they'd be more than happy to have more riders along. Several of the guys there have ridden it and are familiar with it, so you could learn some things.

Hmmm.. as administrator, do I impose a restriction on posting group rides when you should be out doing trail volunteer work at Lebanon at 6pm Tuesdays?
Naw.. I'll letcha ride and won't censor. Thats why we're here, after all...

If I don't go up to the DirtSpanker to patrol on Sunday, Havn't decided yet, I would be more than willing to give a guided tour of the Farm for anyone who is interested. I'd even bring the Video camera and get some footage ( hopefully can get the Helmet cam fixed by then)
What time of Early were you thinking?
I'd love to get going around 8:00, or else I won't get anything done on the basement remodel that day. And sooner or later, if the basement doesn't get done, there might be a day without riding all together. Aaaaaaaagh. . . . .

Why don't you guys ride a different trail? Thats what weekends are for, Epic Rides!!! Some friends and I are car pooling on Sat or Sunday to ride Levi_Trow. I will post tomorrow when the plans get firmed up. There is this trail called cliffhanger with rocks and roots cut into the side of a hill that is a blast to ride. Levi-Trow is located 2 hrs east of Mpls. Levi-Trow Trail Review (http://www.mtbr.com/trails/Wisconsin/LevisMound.html)
I thought I was going for a change of scenery here.?!
Having never been to the Farm, I thought I should check it since it sounds like a solid trail.
The Levi-Trow trail looks fantastic - but it will have to wait untill I can devote an entire day to get over there, ride and explore it, eat and relax, and get back to town, or better yet, stay out there and attack it again.

I hear the "un-official" 12 hours of The Farm is taking place this Saturday... if anyone is interested.
I don't know who to contact about it. I don't think it is really official or open to just anyone.. but I'm sure if you asked someone you could get in on it.
Any "Farm Crew" guys out there?

Those of you who would like to ride this next Tuesday, simply show up at the SA around 6.30 and we'll hook up. There will be a couple of us there already riding and we'd be glad to show you the trail.
If you want more info or directions, shoot me an email and I'll help ya out.

...someone here at work just told me it was raining....
We got a bit off topic here, and I think Levi-Trow is overshadowing any local Sunday morning rides.
I am still hoping to check out a new trail This Sunday, so If anyone is interested, either send me a PM or post here if we can get anything going for the Farm.
Otherwise - I'll be hitting the new XX like everyone else. . . .
KleinCrazy - get that camera rolling, I need a shot or two of my '03 custom painted Attitude before it starts getting chipped up.

Bah!!!!
If it ain't painted in the Team scheme it don'r look good :P
Just Kidding, any custom Klein is a good bike.
I believe that a group of us is doing a morning ride at 9:00am On the XX on Saturday.
I am also willing to do a ride at 8:00 or 9:00am on suday at the Farm.
I'll set a firm commitment when I here from you.
James
P.S. I have figured out what is wrong with the Helmet Cam, should be fixed soon.
I will bring the Camera and get some handheld shots Sat and Sunday.

Got Room?!?!?!
DO you need a ride to the Farm?
the way I figure it 7 miles of trail, 6 feet per biker, that comes out to 6160 bikes can fit on the Farm at once.
I would say there is plenty of room.
Come on out and join us.
If you do need a ride let me know.
James
I'll plan on being out there about 8 on Sunday.
Now - directions? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Taken Directly from MTBR.com with some mod's :
Take 494W towards Eden Prarie to 212 West to the Hwy 41 intersection. Go South which will be a left turn. Go about 5 milesd till you see a watertower for Johnathon on the right and an SA station hidden on the left. There will be a stop light there and look for the SA gas price sign. Park in the SA lot(be sure to patronize for them allowing us to use thier lot!). Just across the street, you'll see a faint trail leading up a hill to a vacant lot.
Trail Description:
That trail pretty much kicked ass. They had the trail marked somewhat, craftily named as trail 1 and trail 2. I rode some of trail 1 and most, if not all, of trail 2. Trail 1 was pretty short, twisty and a bit muddy. It reminded me of some of the stuff at Wirth. Trail 2 was long, it probably took me 40 minutes to make the whole loop. It was a lot like Terrace, mostly flat and it just twisted up, down and around a ravine. The only problems I had were some of the sections were just unridable, at least at my level. When there were up hills, they were killer, I had to walk about 5 five of them. Maybe that was because they were still slimy from the rain, but I don't think I could have done it even if they were dry. It took me about 45 minutes to get down there, but it was well worth the drive. I'd do it again anytime
Thanks.
I'll be out there Sunday morning.

James Sorry I should have been clearer...I don't need a ride just someone to show me the trail.
I assume we'll meet at the speedway at 8?

Thanks again CrazyKlein for showing me the trail....it truely is an awesome trail!
Sorry I missed you guys. I got there about 8:20 - due to a rather critical error in the directions below. (You need to turn right at the intersection of 212 and 41.)
Rode the trail anyway, of course, and loved it. Definitely would have been better to have someone to show me the flow, but got in over an hour of great riding.
I'll keep my eyes peeled for another group ride out there.

Sorry Ty,
We must have Just missed you. We couldn't have left the parking lot much before 8:18.
You must have been the guy driving the VW Golf.
I am supprised we didn't see you back on one of the twisty sections.
I apologize for the directions, I did not write them or proof them. You take 494 to Hwy 5 west to cty 41 then south. 212 take you into downtown chaska and you are correct, you have to go right and up the hill to get to the trailhead.
Let me knwo the next time you wanna give it a try and I'll be happy to ride.
Hopefully you were going the right directions, you can tell if your not because the tetter totters are not set up right :)

I'm glad to hear thay you "newbies" got to The Farm! :p
It's one of my favorite places to ride. As I mentioned earlier, there will be a goup of us riding there tomorrow night at 6.30. Finally the days are long enough that we can get a lap in without guessing where to go! If you'd like to ride it again or for the first time, meet us in the SA parking lot before 6.30.
BTW - how do you get SA out of Speedway?

The actual company name is Speedway which is the brand name they use in Michigan, Ohio and other parts east of here...if you look closely at your credit card reciepts you'll notice it say speedway on it instead of SA (although I have seen SA before as well)....it's just a habit to call it speedway since that's what I've always known them as and really never think about it.......you know it's kinda funny listening to their jingle on the radio and hear them sqeeze SA into where Speedway is normally sung

I'm originally from Michigan, and you're exactly right. Whenever I hear the "The convenient stores of SuperAmerica" jingle I smile... It's supposed to be Speedway, people!

Sorry about giving you the bad directions, Ty. The original directions I got from mtbr had Hwy 169S on them when it used to go through Downtown Shakopee but I figured you would be coming from the north so I put 212W which merges with Hwy 5. This is the road you take to Co. Rd. 41 south. I have driven this way enough I don't pay attention to these details, yeah i know there big details. I looked at SA's site before I posted the directions for the Hwy that 41 intersects with near the SA station, but what they had on their site did not seem right even though it probably is. Maybe someone should post accurate directions so no one uses the one I posted.

Now that the directions are out in the open, we might as well put em' on our trail review I spoze... :p
Sorry we didn't have that information available. I am not a huge fan of "hidden" or "secret" trails - if a trail is legal or in a "gray area" then ride it, tell others about it and let people have fun.
If it is not legal, then close it down to everyone.
(Our fear is if we gave directions we'd be asked to remove the review entirely.)
Still, this is a trail that is best ridden with someone who knows the place if you can.. thats just a suggestion from someone who had a good guide my first time around (James Ford) and had a much better time riding than I would have if I were on my own back in there...

I noticed that "The Farm Club" are an Affiliate Sponsor of MORC. Any chance any of you guys are hanging out here and would like to post anything as far as when you work on the trail? I would love to be able to help out and keep this thing in tip-top shape.
oh ya - did I mention that we're riding there tomorrow night?! :)

Adam - Thanks for showing us around last night. It's been a few years since I had been to the Farm and I now realize I was missing 1/2 the trails.
Also, you now understand my user name!
Anyone else looking to ride the Farm should definately jump at the offer to get in on a group ride.
