Somehow the fastest lap at Lebanon was being discussed in the Riding Tips area. I was told 21:10 is the fastest. Now is this including the X Loop or even adding in the Beginner Loop? I just want to time myself to see where I am at, so someone please tell me what the time trial loop consists of.

out of the parking lot, through the Joey Trail, Through the intermediate loop, through the Expert loop, out to the end and finish by going through the Beginner loop.
good luck :)

I'd be interested if anyone can beat that time... and be honest! ;) I think it is also only fair that you do 2 laps - I'm sure this individual could have been faster had he known he was only doing one sprint lap.
Oh, and I moved this thread in case you didn't notice.. hehe

Most times I ride there I average between 26 and 24 minutes per lap. I'm guessing during a race situation I'd be hauling major butt on the uphills to cut boku time, because I usually don't put *too* much effort into the uphills when I'm just riding for fun. The technical stuff and downhill I don't know if I could cut too much more off of, but who knows?
I'm guessing 23 minutes is more-or-less easily attainable with a little extra effort. 22 minutes would be certainly more impressive. 21:10 for me probably involves really pushing the envelope on every corner, clearing every log flawlessly, hauling up the hills ...
I usually ride the beginner loop first not last, though ...

Plus, the guy had 70+ other riders out there to pass. Maybe didn't affect things too much, but one never knows.
Best simulation would be to run the exact same course in fairly dry conditions during a busy weekend where there are many riders out there... do the same loop (twice) then take your fastest time.
Oh, and no cutting through those logs hehe... ;)
I'm going to try time myself soon as well just for fun... gotta find a better stop watch - those bike computer ones don't seem to cut it for this type of thing.
Other than that, the trail itself hasn't changed since the time trials.... but eventually it will and that will throw all of this off until next year. Hopefully we'll get even twice as many riders next year at the trials. It was a blast!

There is a big difference between passing during a race and passing while riding for fun. I can imagine during a time trial if someone's coming up fast behind you he's gonna yell "Left!" or something similar very demandingly, and it's just good sportsmanship to move aside. I know I'd yell "passing" quite insistantly if I were doing a time trial.
But, for recreational riding, I'm a hell of a lot more polite, and some people don't move out of your way for quite some time.

Yea, I sometimes just follow for a while - but if I say anything most are quick to move away.
Some get downright nervous though - I've had a few people wipe out in front of me trying to clear a path. DOH!
Think of a few rec riders as being equal to 70+ time trial riders..
;)

How is the time trial run? I imagine you stager the starts, right? One rider starts every minute or something like that? Realistically, nobody's going to pass 70 people in one lap!

PS I was nowhere near that 21 minute mark that just nuts...I was at about 30 minutes a lap.:) well I wanted to be under that for my own gratification

I agree.... for pretty much anything under 24 minutes you really gotta be cookin'.
But of course, you could settle this once and for all by coming out to next summer's Lebanon Time Trials.... :)
(sorry, race promoter's shameless plug)
Oh, and the course map isn't exactly accurate, it was just a guesstimation of where the trails were (I couldn't remember exactly). But if you know the trail, just ride the regular loop with the X loop (Don't take the intermediate bypass) and ride the beginner loop as you finish.

Yeah, I'll definitely have to try the time trial next year.
I agree that 21 or 22 minutes is really cookin'. Like I said, I think I've done 24 out there doing X loop and beginner (4.9 miles), so I know I can do 23 given a race situation. Anything lower than that means a lot of stress. :fool:

Log ride mandatory, right?
I think we should have a special event: the XX Loop Extreme Wheelbarrow Time Trial Challenge! Otherwise known as XXLEWTTC (pronounced "Bob"). Load up your best wheelbarrow with a Hugh Jass rock, pray it doesn't flat the tire and GO!

That last comment was an inside joke from the trail crew last night. I brought my wheelbarrow out to trail work to help build the berm up, but the crew decided they would haul around 1000lb. rocks with it. The wheel didn't like that idea....
No major loss though, it was well worth the flat to see that berm get built up as strong as it was. Better the 'barrow than someone's back!
Anyway.. back to the fastest lap thing. ;)

It was pretty funny. I'm the one who got all the blame for flatting the tire 'cause after we loaded up that 1/2 ton Berm Anchor I lifted the barrow's arms and immediately set it down while shouting "What the hell? Is there a snake there!?!?!?"
(note: loud hissing sound was mistakenly attributed by me.)
