Unicycle with knobbies?!

I rode a lap at Terrace yesterday and while I was chatting in the parking lot, this guy pulls out a unicycle with knobbies. He's all outfitted with some shoes with shinguards, helmet and camelbak.
Upon further probing, it turns out that he has been riding unicycles for the better part of 20 years and has just started riding them offroad in the last couple of years! It was so cool to watch this guy ride on the trails.
He had a 24" X 3" tire on and 170 cranks. He would literally hop up and over obstacles. The most impressive being the fallen tree turned log crossing. I think he went over it better than me!
I rode behind him for a bit just to watch and talk to him. I was so amazed that I forgot to get his name. Has anyone else seen this guy around?

Yeah;
Saw a couple of guys with unicycles out at Battle Creek last fall. Unfortunately I only saw them in the lot. Would have been interesting to see them going up (and down) some of those climbs.
