I was in Palm Springs, CA this week for business, last place I thought I'd want to ride - was 110 degrees! I called around before going and found there is a 24 hour race course 35 miles away in the mountains so I brought my gear and rented an XTR equiped Full Supension Giant from a place in town called Tri-A-Bike in Palm Springs (760-340-2840).

I think the trail is called Idyllwild though everybody referred to it as "the 24 hour course." It's just outside the town (wide spot in the road really) of Idyllwild. Oh, and only 80 degree's up there.

Freaking fun ride, really well maintained loop with everything you could want. Lots of technical uphill, tech downhill and blasts through alpine meadows, granite boulders, all the good stuff. A couple a ravines, like 50 ft across, 15 ft deep, that you fly into and LAUNCH out of - think natural half pipe. Ripping fast downhill sections with specific kickers built in all over the place. Somebody's put a lot of work into this place.

FLEW over the handle bars on a fast down hill that knocked the wind out of me. Back of my helmet was trashed, I think my Camalback cushioned me a bit. Jacked into the brush a couple times too, I look like I got in a fight with a tom cat. Don't forget the cold Tecate's for afterward!~
