I'm heading to the Black Hills of SD to camp and ride. Never had a bike there before. I plan to ride the Tinton Trail and Old Baldy Trail which are both near Spearfish. Anyone been there??

My only memory is riding through some of the jeep trails in Custer State Park.

Lots of buffalo ... loooooots of buffalo ...

If you like a mixture of Jeep roads and knarly single track, there's a ton of dirt bike trails in the vicinity of Piedmont - Nemo - Rochefort. The only places I could describe to enter the system is from the frontage road in Piedmont. Stagebarn canyon road or something like that, and another place close to "downtown" Piedmont. Turn at the corner by the old grey building.

I'm heading out to the same area in late June, so I'd love to hear how things went and any other trails you found while you were out there. Send me a PM or post a reply to this thread.

The Black Hills freakin' ROCK! They are by far one of my favorite places to be. Trails are truely awesome, and absolutely deserted. Spearfish Canyon is most definitely a good place to go hit up for rides. Great mountain single track at less than mountian altitudes. That's a good combo. There's one trail that really sticks out in my mind. Its the Centenial Trail, 111 miles point to point. Damn near all ridable, and accessable at many points along the way. One section clearly stands out in my mind though. It starts in Nemo and goes to the south. It's a multi user trail, meaning you MIGHT run into ATV or Moto's. Maybe. the trail is wider to accept those uses though, so its not a true single track, but still is a gas to ride. Great climbs, mind blowing descents with perfectly spaced water bars with perfect transitions. Great for getting some air.

Enjoy your time out there. If you're like me, you'll probably want to move out there soon. Stop in at Acme Bicycles in Rapid City to get diections to many other trails in the area. The BH's are truely untapped for thier potential.
