No payment.. there is some good info at www.imba.com - you have to take first aid, CPR and a bike course. The NCMBP has more info as well - check www.ncmbp.org and www.trailpatrol.org

You actually do the training (pay for it) - pay for a membership, then provide your time to patrol the trails.

Wait.. why am I doing this again? Oh yea.. Hans talked me into it. Plus, I get to ride trails not normally available to me unless I were to race.

It is also fun to be involved with places like Dakota County and help patrol the trails for them...

wow,

I gotta give you guys huge props. Its so awesome that you volunteer your time for the love of the sport.

Its great to see you guys out at buck, you all seem like really friendly people.

Plus, its comforting to know that youre there if i crack my skull open doing something stupid.

So John, Are you going to get a special uniform to wear while patroling so maybe people will take you seriously? Do you get a badge?;) :etard:

Shhhh!!! Give them a badge and next thing you'll know they'll want a lights & siren setup for their bike

First of all, I did not, let me re-state emphatically DID NOT lure, entice, recruit or drag John L. into the mountain bike patrol. He came up to me in the parking lot at REI after a MORC meeting, and said "I wanna be like Dale and Steve."

If we have enough interest, we will probably have another new patroller training session this summer, probably at Lebanon. If not, the Backcountry Patrol has training in Deer River in July.

There are two parts to NCMBP, events and trails. Everyone works some events. Some members only work events, others only do trail patrol.

There are four NMBP patrols in Minnesota: North-Central in the Twin Cities and Hayward, WI, Arrowhead MTB Patrol in Duluth, Brainerd Lakes MTB Patrol in Brainerd and the Backcountry Trail Patrol Association in the Cities and Deer River. Get ahold of me if you are interested in any of them.

Ride safe,
Hans

Any updates on additional training? After seeing first hand the help and support these guys give to a race event, it's very apparent the need and credit these people deserve. They understand the points and structure of a race, what questions to ask about the course, and how to monitor a race effectively.

No training in sight as far as I know, at least in the metro area.

Believe me, I'm begging for more training. I think it is easier to hold these types of things in the spring/winter/fall than the busy summer months though.

I'm going to keep on requesting training and we'll post info here as we get any new events planned.

What if we held training and just didn't invite John?

The training scheduled for last weekend in the Chippewa National Forest has been rescheduled for the evenings of the IMBA/Subaru Trail Care Crew visit in the Chippewa National Forest, outside of Deer River, MN. If you are interested in either of these training opportunities, please e-mail us at "backcountry@trailpatrol.org"

Ride safe,
Hans
