This summer my job is going to keep me out in eastern SD for a good portion of every week - 30 miles south of Watertown. I plan on bring my road bike to keep the driver thru dinners in check. I wanted to hear if anyone knew of some trails in the area. I'd like to hear of anything within a 60-75 mile radius of Watertown. Thanks!!!

Only Place I have riden in eastern SD is Newton Hills. about 20 miles south of Souix Falls. Don't know if it still open to bikes or not. Call one of the shops down there to find out.

I think there is a trail in the Sisseton area. It is not a long trail but it is built in kind of a hollow and has a stream running through the bottom. Campground there and some good climbing. Horses too though!!

I think what Tim may be refering to is Sica Hollow State Park? Who knows for sure, i go up there (Sisseton area) a lot (2 weeks in June in fact, ahhhhhhh:fool: ) But anyways, the way I see it, once you hit South Dakota, there isn't much for established mtn bike trails as far as I know. There are some pretty tall hills once you get north of Watertown up into the Sisseton area, but that would be best suited on a road bike.

And anyone planning on riding or driving highway 10 west of Sisseton might want to take another route since it's like 40 miles of loose gravel and crushed pieces of road. Just a friendly heads up.:)

Yes, the Newton Hills Trail is the best you'll find in eastern SD and yes, it is still open to mountain bikes. Sica Hollow (near Sisseton) would be the next best bet.

I'm going to try out Sica Hollow for riding since I'm up by Sisseton for a weekend in April (free fishing weekend in SD) and then a week in June (more fishing)
