I'll be there if I can. I'm just finishing up 11th grade, however, so I'm kind of busy.
Looking forward to working at Battle Creek again! I will be on vacation starting the 22nd through June 14th so I'll miss those nights. I'll be ready to go that third week in june though.

This from trail steward Steve Garnjobst:
We were rained out last week, so MORC's first weekly trail work session
at Battle Creek Regional Park for 2003 will be held this evening
Thursday, May 29th. We'll meet at 6:00 PM in the Trailhead parking lot
at Battle Creek Community Center
We have plenty of trail maintenance and enhancement projects planned, so
I encourage you to help us get off to a fast start next Thursday. As an
added incentive, all trail work volunteers who attend the first session
on May 29th will receive a free MORC Trail Care Crew t-shirt!
See you there!

There will be a trail work session at Battle Creek Regional Park this Thursday, June 19th. We'll meet at 6:00 PM in the Trailhead parking lot at the Battle Creek Community Center.
We need a big turnout this week, as we'll be tackling a challenging and exciting job. Here's what we have planned:
1)Finish a short 100 foot re-route. The re-route will be bench-cut by the Dingo, so volunteers need only do the finish work.
2)Build the first rock garden/rock armored trail section at Battle
Creek! Gravity Lab has generously donated some excellent raw materials, so we'll be creating a number of rock sections this year. The rocks will both protect against erosion AND add technical challenge. Those of you who want to keep the steeper sections of trail open at Battle Creek and/or add more technical challenges, come out and help us on the first of many rock projects!
All in attendance will receive a MORC Trail Care Crew t-shirt.
See you there!

If you guys get a chance, can someone check out the broken off sign post that has been causing some problems... I was reading about it on tuesday in the forum, and low and behold, I hit it that night... shredded my tire...
Its right at the bottom of a gravel trail, where the sidewalk, trail and parking lot(lot just off of upper afton road) meet. we set a pile of rocks around it to make it more noticable...
I can try to give better directions if need be...
thanks!

I'll try to locate it again this weekend. Last time I looked, I couldn't find it - maybe the rock pile will help!

Thanks to all who participated in the Thursday eveing trail work session!
We completed a 100ft trail re-route around a badly eroded section.
We hauled several tons of rocks into the park, and began armoring a section of trail near Battle Creek Road. This 60-80 feet rock long rock garden will definitely add some technical challenge. Pardon our mess, until we get the section completed!

Could you describe where the rocks have been placed? I haven't been out there since last year.
There were four of us out for trailwork last night. We created a bit of a warning for riders approaching the unfinished rock section and tried to smooth out some of the sections that were really rough and could cause you to do a barwalk if you hit them wrong.
We then split up and combed the trails for intrusive brush and storm damage. The stump at the top of the pallet climb was removed along with a tree that had fallen on the downhill into battle creek ravine. I also did a little work on resecuring some of the erosion control 'carpet' on that downhill.
Trail conditions were really pretty good considering all the rain. Of course BC usally drains quite well, considering how sandy most of it is. Most of the trail was good and tacky, giving you virtually unlimited traction.

Troy & crew,
Thanks for making it last night! Sorry I couldn't be there - I'm in Florida at my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. We'll definitely tackle the rock section in earnest next Thursday. Also, if anyone's in town over the 4th and wants to help finish the rocks, let me know. I'm planning to spend some time working on the section July 4th & 5th.

We'll be meeting at 6 PM in the Community Center parking lot this Thursday, July 10th. We'll be working on the new rock garden. Come on out, we need as much help as we can get!

I apologize, I won't be able to make it out this evening. Hope all goes well and I should be back at it next week.

Just rode BC yesterday. The reroute is nice, but I knda miss dropping into that "chute". Yeah yeah, I know it was a chute becase of bad erosion problems, and it needed a fix. :) The reroute is smooth and verrrry fast-well done.
I thought the rock garden was quite tame (I just got back from Wyoming where the entire trail tended to be a rock garden) but added a nice little twist in the descent. How does it compare to the new garden's at Lebanon?

We're trying to keep this particular section of the trail relatively tame, as there isn't an optional trail around the rocks. We are going to add a larger optional drop as part of the final 30 ft. stretch we haven't completed yet.
The rock gardens in the Expert & XX loops at Lebanon are quite a bit more challenging than the first section at Battle Creek.
We'll be putting some more difficult rock sections in at Battle Creek, in places where we can make them optional. We have one area in a more remote part of the park slated for some extremely difficult rock sections later this year.

The first rock section is ALMOST completed. For those who haven't ridden it yet, we built an optional rock drop that should provide some added technical challenge for advanced riders.
I was very disappointed by the turnout (or lack, thereof) at last Thursday's trail work session. Do we need to schedule work sessions on a different evening? If more people don't start showing up, we'll need to dramatically scale back our plans for adding rock sections and other trail enhancements, limiting future work to basic remedial mantenance activities. I need some help getting more volunteers to sessions!

Wouldn't ya know it...
We got out bid on the townhome we wanted. It sounds like you're getting some work done.
If we weren't looking at more townhomes I'd show up tonight!! aarrghhh
Maybe next week. :embarass:
Sorry I missed the last couple of weeks. I was out of town on a long weekend last week but count me in for this week.
Post a reminder on the board wed. afternoon. That way people will be reminded, at least for those that dont know it's always thursdays at 6.
See ya then. . .

Trail Work will start at 6 PM this Thursday, as usual. We'll meet in the Community Center Parking lot, then head over to the Pt. Douglas Rd. parking lot. The evening project will be a cribwall on one of the turns on the new bluff trail.
-Steve
Just a reminder to come join us for trail work Thursday night at Battle Creek.
We'll meet at the Winthrop parking lot at 6pm, then move down to work on a section of trail near the Point Douglas rd. parking lot. We will be firming up a switch back where we built a crib wall last week.
Hope to see you there.
