Ok, we're back at it again this Tuesday. XX loop work is the scope of the trail session again - we're still hoping to get it in riding condition before the end of the month, but this all depends on how many people show up to help out. There is still a good amount of trail "finishing" work to be done behind where Dingo & Bob left off....
If you can, please show up and help out. We're still on a roll, and the weather looks to be near perfect for trail work.
See you in the JCRR parking lot around 6pm!

Already begged forgiveness from John on this one, but just to let everyone else know:
I'm not gonna be working with yous tonight. My excuse? I'm gonna ride Lebannon on my bike :D'
I've got a 100 mile in 2 or 3 days Maah Daah Hey trip coming up in ten days and I need to get time in the saddle whenever I can. So, I might still see you guys out there if I'm passing by. Just look for the guy with the sleeping bag strapped to the back of his bike ;). Gotta test our gear-toting methods, ya know!
P.S. Shad wishes we could take a cabin with us or something. As a born-and-bred city boy he says he's "so scared" of sleeping next to the snakes and coyotes out there. Maybe if he drove an SUV he wouldn't fear nature so much?
"Outta my way, nature!" -Marge Simpson driving her new CanyonArrow. CanyonArrow! *whip-ish*! HYAAA!!!

You are certainly excused for wanting to ride, especially after the help you have given the past few weeks.
Kind of related to what you mention - I don't mean to put people down for riding the trails... after all, that is what we're doing all this for, right?
However, there always seems to be an extra large number of riders on Tuesday nights during trail work. I don't mind seeing people riding and enjoying the trail... maybe some people can only ride Tuesdays... or whatever. I just wonder if some of these people could just spend even just one of their Tuesdays to help out?
To be honest, I sometimes wonder if people pick Tuesdays to ride just so they can see and be seen... I dunno.
What I really don't like are the people who ride by obviously annoyed that we are there. I mean.. it seems fairly obvious that we're not the average hiker on a bike trail - we have tools in hand, morc trail care crew shirts, we're there every Tuesday at 6 like clockwork etc...
Last week I actually had one guy grumble under his breath something to the affect of being in his way as he absolutely tore past a group of trail workers (like a car speeding through a construction zone).
I'm not asking for accolades every time a person rides by.. although a simple "thank you" is nice to hear, it is not necessary. I just want people to recognize that there are people out there making the trails they are riding on and to please try to be as careful around trail workers as we are when a bike comes by. Usually if you see a group of trail workers you should slow down and pay attention if they are warning of changes ahead.
Maybe in the future we could put a better sign at the trailhead warning of trail workers etc...
Now... how do we get some of these regulars to come help out with trail work.. or at the very least, not act all pi$$ed off when they ride by. (this is for sure the small minority of people who ride)
:(

Hello,
This is my first post here, although I have been reading these forums for some time, Just to see whats going on. I have not been into Mtn biking for that long, maybe 2 years, and the only place I ever go is the river bottoms, mainly because I live near them and I ride them before work a lot of the time, its nice to ride them at 6 in the morning, when there is nobody there.
Anyway, I love all the technical stuff through that trail, what little there is, wish there were more, I would really like to bike Lebanon soon, with that in mind, I would also like to come out and help with the trail, then maybe ride some sections to get to learn where things are, is that what everyone does most of the time? Also where does everyone meet? In the parking lot then ride to the portion of the trail thats being worked on?

Hey Scott, all good questions. I just got in from trail work, but I'm going to post a new web page hopefully tomorrow that will be a Frequently Asked Questions type of thing for trail work in general and also specifically at Lebanon.. I'll post the link here asap.
To answer your question quickly though, we do meet at the Johnny Cake Ridge Road parking lot at 6pm. We don't really bike during or after, but some guys show up and bike before the trail work starts. We are thinking of having MORC sponsored group rides at Lebanon Wed. evenings, however, and I'd like to see it as a way of getting the people together that trail work and rewarding ourselves with a little ride etc. (maybe even trying some of the new sections we did the night before etc.)
More on this as well soon...

I hear there was some more nasty rock gardens built back in the xx loop last night.
I wasn't there during the regular trail work (each 2nd Tuesday we have a MORC board meeting we try to attend)
Sounds like there is now some nasty rocks to negotiate just before Jan's Rock... and one of the guys rode Jan's Rock all the way on his front wheel because he hit a rock with his back tire...
I think the XX loop is starting to sound like an XX loop now.
When I was there between 2 and 6pm, I saw Dale Gunberg in there with the Dingo building one MONSTER tabletop jump! I can't wait to try it... I think this is something we are really missing and hope we eventually have more jumps out there. This will be nice becuase you can either try clear it, or you can just hop up and off like normal if you don't want to get any big air.
BTW: Rumor is that IMBA is interested in the techniques used to build the jumps via mechanized trail building tools! Keep up the great work, Dale & Tim...
Oh, and rumor has it that we're getting new MORC Trail Care Crew t-shirts made up.. so, if you haven't gotten one yet and you show up for a certain number of trail work sessions you may find yourself eventually sporting one of these once we get them made up.
