A friend of mine just purchased a Norco hardtail designed to take a beating. It has a Dirt Jumper suspension fork with 130mm of travel, disk brakes, 1 front chainring, and a low frame built to take abuse.

Being that I come from a BMX background I am stoked to see such mountain bike designs come around. I went to Erik's and saw the Specialized P2 and they let me ride it. It's a great handling bike for agressive riding. Basically it's a 26" BMX cruiser with gears.

So, for anyone who breaks stuff and likes to ride hard, these bikes are what you need. I am gonna get one as soon as I can dish out the measly $650.00 for a P2. Oh, if you like your bikes light, you don't want one of these. My freestyle bike is almost 40 pounds, so I am used to the weight.......

I got a Trek Bruiser One last year for $450 which was a steal. No discs or suspension but it's an excellent beater/urban assault/jumper bike nonetheless. Comes with a single front chainring with a roller setup and 2.3" Kenda tires. Wide Bontrager steel rise bar, flat pedals, truvativ cranks... I added my Bomber Z1 which had previously been on my single (and went rigid on the single).

Apparently it was a pretty popular bike as I got the last one in the Twin Cities in May of last year.

But yeah, it definitely has a BMX-bike-with-gears feel. I like it.

Well, I went out and got a Specialized P2 long the other day. I love it. It works great for street type riding like jumping off drops, curb jumping, and I even did a footplant wall ride with it. I also can manual it (wheelie without pedaling) fairly well, but I need more practice and I am learning to ride longer wheelies with it. The rear end is short so the front wheel comes off the ground easier and the stem is super short, giving it quick handling. This is a Mountain bike with BMX handling.

I plan to keep my Schwinn Moab 1 with XT stuff on it to ride Cross Country type trails like the Maa Daa Hey I just did, but the P2 is going to be my favorite ride from now on.
