Most people who ride BC with any frequency know that there are deer all over the place, and you sometimes have to be cautious of them jumping out across the trail. Well, we can add another thing to watch for now. I almost got run over by a Turkey last night. It was on the meadow crossing just out from the parking lot, before you make the turn up in to the woods. I didn't see it coming until it ran full tilt across the trail about 20ft in front of me. A few minutes later I saw another one on the double track up top.

All in a days ride. . .:)

And don't forget to beware of the domestic party species. BC seems to have a large population haunting the woods and fields - often times you'll come whizzing around a corner to find some red eyed gapper standing in the middle of the trail, slinging a 40oz with a marby hanging out of his mouth. :etard:

Mt. Kato has them all over the place and I've actually been knocked off my bike by one of them - AND IT HURTS! :embarass:

If you happen to see one, and you probably will with their incredible comeback in the wild, just slow down and let them take an escape route away from you. They can fly and turn, but you'll usually find them on a single track full of trees. So when a bird has a choice between hitting you or a tree, the rider will usually lose hands down.

Deer, schmeer. Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Well, okay no lions and tigers, but timber wolves, moose and bears, no joke! I have seen moose and a wolf while riding on Pancore Lake Loop in Superior National Forest, bald eagles and bears in the Chippewa, and one honkin' big black bear in the Chequamegon N.F. while doing sweep on the Cable Off-Road Classic!

Not to mention raccoons, rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, gophers (John, get out of that hole!:D ) a couple of skunks and so on...

It's what you find when you ride on the wild side!

But...

Ride safe,

Considering Lebanon comes within about 10' of the MN Zoo fence, it is funny we haven't seen a few more strays here or there on the trail.

That dang zoo - takes away hundreds of available singletrack! Maybe they would let us go through the fence "at our own risk" - just don't ride at night! ;)
