Talking with a co-worker about the trail building at Lebannon and he wondered if it was something he could get his Boy Scout troop to help out on! He's not too sure if it falls under the scouts doing something "for the public good" if it's just for mountain bikers, but I told him they'd really be doing it for the parks and the county, so maybe that'll swing 'em ;).

Thats a great idea. I believe we might have had scouts out one time before - definitely something they could help with and learn... give them their trail maintenance merit badge!

If your co-worker is seriously serious, have him get a hold of me and we can work something out!

Having the scouts out to help with trail building would be great. Having them work with us would focus the work on areas that
Dakota County has told MORC that need work. Unfortunately occasionally a scout, sometimes one looking to earn his eagle, comes to the park staff with a project the scout thinks is a good idea. This requires significant time on the part of staff to review and plenty of paperwork for the scout as well as park personnel.

So if we can include scouts in some of the work that we have planned it works better for the scouts, parks personnel and MORC. At least they won't be taking out a bunch of Sumac that we had been using to control traffic and lower speed just before a sharp turn.:p
