TrailPatrol

The Backcountry Trail Patrol will begin patrolling the trails in the Chippewa National Forest on May 17th. For the first few sessions this season, we will be doing light trail clean-up, marking and reporting areas for the US Forest Service crews to do any major work that needs to be done, and scoping out potential project areas for the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew visit in July. We will also be exploring and cleaning up the trails in the Trout Lake and Suomi Hills areas which the Forest Service has recently asked us to start patrolling.
Very little trail building will need to be done, but if you have them, you should bring tools that you can carry on your bike, like a folding shovel, hatchet and folding saw. Camping is $14.00/night at the USFS and Corps of Engineers campgrounds in the area, but there are over 250 dispersed (free) backcountry campsites in the Forest. We will probably stay at USFS Mosomo Point campground, which is adjacent to the Simpson Creek Trails, or North Deer Lake, on the other side of Simpson.
I know this will be a busy weekend in the Minnesota/Wisconsin Biking community, but if you are not into competition, and are looking for a new place to ride and contribute to better mountain biking in Minnesota, or if you are interested in joining the Backcountry Trail Patrol, come up to the Chippewa the third weekend of May!
Ride safe,
