I wanted to hear from those in the group that have a routine they believe works from them to get back into shape after the long winter hiatus - beyond get on the bike and ride. Any other work outs, diet changes, routines, etc. that have helped you out in the spring? The Lakeville Ironman ride is less than two weeks out plus Mud Madness the weekend after that AND I am looking pretty pathetic. :hit:

You know, I should probably do the diet change, but that's not happening; French (Freedom!) Toast and bacon for breakfast.

Mostly I just ride (road and mtn) and run. It's a slow process. I'm ususally in shape by August. I'll put blading in the mix soon...

I always feel like a steady training schedule is just out-of-reach for me. I keep in shape but don't train, so-to-speak. I bought a season pass at Buck Hill this winter and rode my racing snowboard there quite a lot and I think that helped keep my legs. A little bit of work at the gym (emphasis on the word "little") and some rollerblading/jogging once the weather was just warm enough but the dirt trails weren't dry yet.

The biggest diet change is sometimes I get Gatoraide instead of Mello Yello ;)

I've been training off and on since the beginning of March when I find the time (usually 2-3 times a week, 4 if I'm lucky). There's no way it'll get me ready for Mud Madness, but it's better than nothing.

That'll be my 1st race ever, so the whole racing scene will be new to me and I won't expect to finish high at all. I just want to get a race under my belt so I know what I will need to do to improve and train for future races, and I'll know what it is like.

Well... here's some perspective....

I race road as well and this year committed to a training program with our team's coach. All I can say is wow, if you thought your training was un or under-structured...

I am training at least 5 days a week if not 6 or 7 and have put nearly 1000 miles in outside this year. That doesn't even count all the trainer miles or XC skiing I did through January and February.

I have no idea how my body is going to react going into a full blown racing schedule with all this preparation... but we'll find out in a couple of weeks. I can definitely say that I feel as fit if not more fit than I was last May and June.
