National Trails Day is just eight weeks away, June 7, 2003. This year's theme, "Healthy Trails, Healthy People," is to increase public awareness of the health benefits of trails.

So far there are only a handful of events on the NTD webpage, including events in Ely, Stillwater and the Chippewa National Forest (see related post) In Wisconsin, CAMBA holds their Poker Ride on NTD every year. The Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew will be in the Twin Cities for National Trails Day, too! Let's take this opportunity to publicize our trails, trail work and the benefits of being out on the trails!

Ride safe,
Hans

National Trails Day activities in the Chippewa National Forest.

The Backcountry Trail Patrol is working with the US Forest Service and local bike shops, to promote special activities for the weekend of June 7, 2003, the National Trails Day weekend.

Patrollers will be at the Cutfoot-Sioux Visitor Center from 9AM-5PM on Saturday, leading group rides on the Simpson Creek and Cutfoot-Sioux trails for all levels of riders. They will also be teaching informal workshops on bike repair, riding techniques, and leading special rides for kids.

The Backcountry and Brainerd Lakes MTB Patrols have been also invited to participate in the dedication of the new Mi-Ge-Zi Trail on Sunday, June 8th, with Congressman (and avid cyclist/advocate) James Oberstar, in the Cass Lake District. Mi-Ge-Zi is a paved trail, linking the newly expanded Heartland and Paul Bunyan Trails with the USFS Norway Beach Campground, and two US Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds.
