Just an FYI for some of you early season racers. Mud Madness is set for May 4th at Mt. Kato. It's a great early seaon race to get your juices flowing and test your metal before you get in front of the big dogs! Call A-1 Bike Shop (507-625-2453) for details.

There's a cash award to the top finishers! Gotta like that. No silly Merch, just cash. Mojo has tried to go pretty deep with it as well. Usually top five for the experts(unless they start being babies over who got fifth....). This'll be the 11th year for Mud Madness, and it keeps getting better and a little bigger each year. I'll see ya there!

Sweet.. I want an early shot at the Luge this year. :) Even though it's the day after McLeod Cty Road race (where I will win in a solo breakaway ;) ) and I know I'll be tired, I'll still come out.

Marty - let's start working on Luther....

Could I get some more details on this event? Are there different race categories and distances, or just one set distance and such? And what's the cost, even though that's not a great factor?

I'm going to hold my breath until spring comes if it doesn't happen soon!!!!

The race is coordinated similar to the MNSCS series races last year. There are classifications for each race with varying changes in distance and difficulty for each classification. The fees are comparable to other races last year. The nice thing about this race is usually there is a great pizza party downtown afterwards.

If you did Bluff Rider's Charge last year it will be very similar, minus the heat!!! :p

Hope this helps. Otherwise give Mojo a call at A-1 Bike Shop in Mankato (507-625-2453) for details.

So how many people are you expecting to race on Sunday. I'm probably going to go and be in the beginning class since it'll be my first race, depending on whether I can bum a ride from my dad. :D So what should I expect also?

I hope it's a good 1st experience at it.

A-1 Bike Shop is the group that is hosting the race, so they would be the best ones to call - I'm just an avid fan (more like rabid fan  ) of Mt. Kato. I'm just working at promoting a trail system I really enjoy riding.

The race last year had about 150 to 180 riders for the race. Not bad for such an early season race and also not on the MNSCS series list. A lot of the more local riders attended last year - central MN, northern IA, and Twin Cities.

If the race course holds true for this weekend - like it did last year for Mud Madness and Bluff Riders - then the beginners course will go something like the attached map route. (I apologize for the sloppy highlights, but I couldn't get my normally editor to run)

I think its one of the better places to get your feet wet in racing. It's a smaller venue in comparison to the main race circuit - like Spring Cup at Buck the following weekend. The course has enough variety and changes that a beginner won't be burnt out.

But then again, I'm a little biased to the area!!! :D

This is an awesome trail system and am glad there is still races there. I usually get down there 3X a year and I highly recommend making the trip to ride some gnarly trails. The last race I went to there had some hot SS women which made it even more enjoyable. Rumor has it that the Playboy Mtn Bike Team is scheduled for next year? Plus the pizza at Paglia's(sp?) brings back memories of college.:etard:

So the course is shortened from the one we ride in the MNSCS?

That one killed me in the 95 degree heat last summer...

I spoke with the guys at A-1 and saw the official course route. For those of you that rode Bluff Riders last year, each division will be running the same course. The only exception maybe Sport/Singlespeed, which could end up going down Luge instead of RidgeRun.

Luge is the one with the REALLY big sign saying:

DANGER DANGER - Ride at your own risk!!! :D

The final route is still being discussed and should be known tomorrow for the pre-ride.

What will happen if there is a steady or heavy rain the day of the race? Will it go on or not?

well, it is called Mud Madness afterall! Unless it's an absolutely torrential downpour like a few years ago, it'll go on, so be prepared for the best, or the worst of conditions. There are a few slippery spots out there if it does get wet, so watch out. I probably won't be out there as I've got way to much f#$king homework to finish before the semester is over. After this week though, my summer is scott free, no responsibilities('cept work)! Can't wait! I'm gonna try to do some of the 12 hr races in WI this season w/a friend.
