Old Cedar Bridge

For anyone who didn't hear, apparently the Old Cedar Bridge is being closed. We've known for a while that this was coming. Gary S has been working on this for a while, but the level of urgency has obviously gone way up. Expediting a replacement bridge should bring together many different user groups.

Hadn't heard of closing. That would be huge for many people who bike commute from south of river. What do you know as far as when, why, how, etc?

The support structure on the bridge is rusting so badly that you can actually look through the metal in spots. The City of Bloomington, US Fish & Wlidlife Service, and The DNR have talked about having to close this bridge in the future but it sounds like it couldn't wait. It must be in very bad shape for them to close it to foot and bike traffic. I'll update this forum if I hear anything.
