Connecting Piedmont & Hartley?

Can anyone suggest a good connection to get between Piedmont trails and Hartley trails? I've been shown how to connect Hartley to Lester, and hitting all three of Saturday would be really really nice.

Here is my suggestion (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=103410995415156323256.00048f49dae958093949a&ll=46.786427,-92.082253&spn=0.110488,0.308647&z=12). It follows Skyline Drive for most of the way, then goes through the UMD campus. Mostly low traffic areas and some nice vistas near Enger Park. There is a trail in the Piedmont system which drops down onto Skyline (I don't know the trail number), and the end point on the map will bring you to Old Hartley Road, where you can ride about 200m down the gravel trail to the start of the singletrack.

I could definitely take roads to Hartley, and appreciate the map, but I've heard rumors of an offroad route. Partially via the powerlines if I remember correctly.
