Terrace looked like this this morning:confused: At first I wondered if MORC closed that part of the trail, but it didn't look like our work and there was no signage, except for the entrance sign that was tore up and tossed in the woods. Someone went to a lot of trouble covering the trail with sticks, branches, and logs; they did the whole first section from the entrance to the first intersection. It took about a half hour to clear it all out.
BTW This was the first time that I've ridden Terrace in a long time, I forgot what a fun little trail it is.

Wow,
Jeff, the trail steward, removed almost the exact same vandalism yesterday afternoon.
I think the city should be called and possibly the police as well.
This appears to be a definite organized case of vandalism going on.

Yes. Same as Thursday afternoon. Not sure what is going on We have a couple members that live within walking distance of the trail. Maybe they can keep their eyes open. I will notify the park superintendent.

The person or people that are doing this can't possibly succeed. They're only one or two, and there are lots of riders, including me, who will clear the trail immediately when we find it blocked.

A trail inspection just after dark tonight showed another trashing of the beginning section. From the size of the obstacles and the overall effort, I'd say the perps are physically weak and creatively challenged.

About ten years ago someone was doing this kind of stuff at wirth. It started getting dangerous at the end of it. They pounded 1-inch metal stakes into the ground around corners and in the more overgrown areas where you couldn't always see the trail. They also put broken glass on the trail and did some other things I won't go into that were even more dangerous.
I hit one of the metal stakes once and it ripped the tire right off the rim. I went over the bars into a tree. I got all bruised and cut up from it. It was at the bottom of hill in the middle of the trail and I was probably going about 15mph when I hit it.
I don't know how things are out there but in MPLS it's a $1,000 fine and up to 90 days in jail just for altering the trail. If someone is doing it with malicious intent to hurt others consequences are much higher.
I'd definitely get the police involved if it continues. They may have access to the equipment through the park to catch the person.
If the person doing this is reading this beware. If someone gets hurt you're in for a world of consequence when you get caught. You won't be hanging at the park anymore. If people get hurt it probably becomes something along the lines of an act of terror.

The geniuses that are doing this won't be able to tell the difference between a real camera vs. a fake one. Just put up a fake one. Or even better, just put up a sign with an arithmetic problem in it. That should scared them away for good ;)

I was out around 3 this afternoon and the trail was full of crap again. There were a lot of logs and twigs criss crossing everywhere. I am sure it isn't environmental activists because they pulled down small live trees and blocked the trail with them. There were also trail marker signs that were set up, buried into the middle of the trail. I don't know where they are missing from. What a pain in the butt. :banghead:

I've gotta believe this will end as soon as school starts in a few weeks. It's still pathetic.

Makes one wonder with the tenacity and frequecy - Parents are the hates and the kids are doing the deeds. They can cook up a story to lessen the ramifications of caught in the act.

Beginning was clear as of 21:00 tonight.
The Hollow had several large branches (8'+) stacked across the trail in two spots (picture isn't the best...):

I'll plan on a swing through TO this weekend to get the debris farther from the trail -- being pushed to the side makes it too convenient to mess it up again.

I rode the trail last friday and it looked like someone was interupted in the middle of putting branches across the trail. I also noticed someone tore down the little laminated sign at the start of the trail. I was on the trail at about 2:40pm . Someone needs to find a different hobby.

I have learned that a city employee caught the perpetrators, hopefully we will have no more issues.
If there are any more incidents of the trail being blocked, please let me know.

That's great news. I'm sure not much will happen to them. I wonder if they could get some community service time.

Make them do trail work!
How about a couple of snowshoe sessions at Murphy?
I think they should be forced to ride the trail. I have to guess that they never have, otherwise why would they do what they did?
Nothing would be more certain to rehabilitate than to afflict them with a life long passion for riding. It may even make trail workers out of them.
So Jeff, if possible pass this offer through your contacts. I am sure we could round up some bikes for them to ride. I would be happy to chaperon.

I think the suspected offenders were let off with warnings.
