Anyone keep track of lap times? I guess specifically the North section. I just started riding there and am curious as to how fast others are doing it.
I warmed up a lap then did a speedy lap then another at basically the same. It felt fast but some of the corners are really sandy and difficult to carry speed through.

Lap times thread (for reference) http://www.morcmtb.org/forums/showthread.php?t=13889&highlight=lap+time
I have no idea why this thread was locked. Theo is really fast trail. The right tires and excellent soil conditions really help.

The first rule about lap times is don't talk about lap times.
Supposedly promotes a race mentality and bullying of more casual riders on the trail.
I know everyone likes to go fast and compare lap times with their friends, but it can't be done here.
Our land manager does not condone racing, officially or not, as an acceptable use of the off-road trails at Theo. While we know that everyone yields at all ski and ped crossings and stops for every Luce Line stop sign, the less awesome among us may misunderstand and ride in a way that does not reflect our user group's good intentions and ability to play nicely with others.
Productive discussion is welcome, but any posting of specific lap times will be edited.

Slightly less time than the laps you and Soupboy referenced ;)

No, I'm the fastest!
That's actually true...nothing worse than getting tailgated by an old guy on a pink bike...
So, I'm second fastest. I can live with that.

I can think of a couple of things. How was the after party Monday night?

My best mark for the north loop is six times in one day (he says, confident that he will not be censored for using "times" in this way) and I'll bet it's nowhere near the official record.
Good places to go for officially sanctioned hot laps are Murphy and Hillside.

The 'Kid' put on a great event at Theo about 3 years ago. The '25 Laps of Theo Enduro'. Sorry you missed it. Every finisher got this great prize:

You probably also missed the TTTTTT&TaT2006 (http://web.mac.com/williamoreilly/BabaKarmy/TTTTTT%26TaT2006.html). One of the greatest races in the history of off road. Back when the weenies didn't rule the roost.

I am sorry to have missed that event, it must have been epic.

Wasn't the Single Speed World Championship was held at Theo Wirth a few years ago? I bet that was an epic sight to see. I would imagine some of those riders kept up a pace even Soupboy couldn't beat.

SSWC2001 was an event that was held before the 'new' Theo was developed. It was the 2nd SSWC, with the first being held in NoCal. You can see a picture of the start line at 1on1. It was right below the railroad bridge between the two loops. Only about 100 meters of the old trail exist today. The race was probably a catalyst for the closing of the Eloise Butler area to off road riders, as those issues were coincidental.

You're right, I am sorry I missed it! I don't think I could do that many laps without some serious peer pressure and incentive. I'm guessing that the laps were somewhat shorter than they are now?
I only have a few "I left my soul in the woods" relics from racing, but that patch would no doubt have been one of them.

Pretty much the same. Just a little longer now with the reroute by the ski trail on the west side. The total was a tad shy of 90 miles. 3 of us finished at just under 6 1/2 hours.

I and a friend put together a ride like that in Iron Mt, MI a couple of years ago. We called it the "Joyride of Death" and it was a metric century that included all of the highest summits in the area. We ended up with 66 miles and 4600+ feet of climbing and then ate lots of hamburgers. :D
