Does anyone know if MTBs are allowed on the trail to Eagle Mountain? I hiked it years ago and don't recall if conditions were specifically good or bad for for two wheel use, but if bikes are prohibited it would be nice to know B4 driving up there. Thanks in advance for responses.

Highly doubt that they are allowed. .....someday.

Nope, mountain bikers are not allowed and likely never will be. The Eagle Mtn trail is primarily on BWCA land and mtn bikers are not allowed in Wilderness areas and likely never will be.

To add to what Ryan said, the fine can be very heavy, $500.00 or more, for taking a bicycle of any sort into a federally designated Wilderness Area such as the BWCAW, and the US Forest Service can and probably will confiscate your bike, permanently. And, you will have to be arraigned before a federal judge/magistrate in Duluth, which means you could be held for arraignment in jail until a judge can be found to hear your case.
I have ridden the road ("The Grade") that goes by the Eagle Mtn. trailhead. (Ridden around the BWCA from Gunflint to Ely.) Getting busted is not my idea of how to end a good bike ride.
Ride safe,
Hans
Yeah the BWCA=non motorized.
Wait, I never have got that part, my bike has a motor, but it's my legs, lungs and heart!!
I guess if we pedaled our bikes with paddles we'd be cool!!:D

Most of it wouldn't be good for riding at all, anyway. It's a lot of big jagged rocks.

Yeah, I have hiked it also and it didn't impress me as something I wanted to ride on a bike anyway.

Yes I agree about the Eagle mountain trail, but there are others that would be sweet to ride!

Hopefully that Grand Marais group can get something going. They are getting organized and have been awarded some grant money, so hopefully there is some new singletrack up that way in the coming few years.
