After reading all the posts and now riding out in the Black Hills, I thought it would help to put some need to know information on this thread.

-- You NEED a guide if you want to ride anything but M-Hill. The guides are free but they don't turn down beer. All the people we meet out there were great to work with and I am sure you wouldn't have a problem finding somebody to help you get around. To find a guide, go onto www.bhmba.org (http://www.bhmba.org) and post up. This forum isn't as active as ours but somebody will contact you. Coordinating the guide was actually not a bother at all. Trent, or T-man, is a great resource. Trent posts on here as well.

-- We rode Elk Creek, Bulldog and Storm Mountain. All are very different rides. There are TONS of other trails to ride that a guide could take you on. Everything from swoopy singletrack to gnarly rocks, exposure and drops. Literally something for every skill level.

-- Expect to drive 20-30 minutes to most trail heads. I couldn't find any camping right at a trail that had any amenities. The trails make up for the car time and the scenery is great in the area.

Hopefully this helps. If people have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Thanks for the update Aaron. It's definately a destination of mine in the future, just not sure if I'll make it out there this year or not.

Aaron, great meeting you guys. I am available to help folks ride out here as well as MANY other members of the BHMBA. Posting a request on our message board is a great idea. We like to show folks around!

Also, there is some strong trail developement happening which includes signage in the plan. Skyline in rapid City and the Buzzrds Roost area are next on the list to be addressed so look for new options!

Good times in Rapid City. I had a blast and loved being so close to M Hill I rode it to it at 6:30 am while my rommie was sleeping in.
can't wait for next year and definitely want to make it out again this year! If anyone else does let me know.

Like I said, I don't drink that stuff but that was SMOOOOOVE. What brand was it again?

Tomatin but its was smooth since it was a 25 year old bottle.
My favorite is the Aberlour 12 or 16 with a Sherry Wood Finish.

A couple of us are considering heading up to the Black Hills this weekend. Can you give us an idea of what the riding is like? I have ridden in Fruita, Moab, Hayward, and many of the local trails in the Cities, so any comparisons would be great.

PM sent to your PM. Nothing like Chequamegon but similar if that makes sense, Our hills are steeper and there are more rocks, lots of rocks.

When we went we stayed outside of Rapid City, more towards mount Rushmore. I don't remember the campsite name but it was next to the Bear Country Zoo, and only about a mile from "Phoenix". This was a great trail with a downhill course and skinny practice area within 50 ft. of the trail head parking lot

Me and a buddy were out that way last year around July, pretty sure we rode Breezy Point with you,

Trent.. There was a good sized group, the owner from Rabbitt cycle, couple other guys, and a dog, but the name clearly sticks out and I can't imagine there's ton's of mtb bikers in rapid city named trent. ;-)

Just thought I'd share that.. Small world.
