I know that during races, the trail is run backwards, but any other time, it should be ridden in the directions indicated by the MORC signs right?
Was out there this past Saturday and on my 2nd lap I was bombing down the wooded section right out of the gate when I almost run into some guys coming the other way. Mind you, they did not look like noobies and I've seen them out on the trails before.
So is it a 2-way?

The trail is not two-way and is to be ridden in the correct directions according to the signage.
At this time of year more caution is required when riding as there will be racers out there riding the wrong direction in the belief it will help them in the race, so ride with a little more caution.
As we have not yet determined what the course will be or the direction the race will be run, they really are not gaining anything and are only causing undue risks to other riders.
I will put up a sign on the trailhead tonight indicating direction and correct use of the trail.
Thanks for the heads up.

Cool. I didn't want to look like an idiot by saying something to veteran riders.

This is why we don't tell anyone how the race course will be until the day of.
Do not ride the course in the wrong direction! That is extremely dangerous!
There should be wrong way signs on the back of the markers.

I usually ride salem once a week and each time this year, I have encountered at least one person going the wrong way. A couple peeps went OTB when they noticed me. All of them said they thought they were going the right way because of the race and all of them turned around and appreciated the info. on how the trail is suppose to run.:etard:

There is a very nice sign at the trail entrance and this is the direction of the trail for all riders. The race course is up to the discretion of the race coordinators and trail stewards for race day only. We can not set up or change the direction of the trail before the day of the race.
Salem is a multiple use trail and all riders should take care to pass others with courtesy and caution. Safety of all park users is important to not just riders of the trail but hikers as well.

You're right about the nice sign at the entrance and at every intersection. But it was up to those veteran riders that were coming the other way that chose to ignore them.

You would think those veteran riders would be veteran (as in experienced) enough to not have the need to train on the correct race course on a trail as easy as Salem Hills........;)

Until the tape and such is in place there is little advantage for experienced racers to pre-ride this course. :nono:

I believe the north loop is normally supposed to go counter-clockwise while the other two loop are clockwise. The sign at the entrance to the trail is not clear, however, and last time I checked, some freelance markings on the pond loop even suggested it's a two-way track.
Can whoever is in charge of this for MORC look into it? Perhaps the sign can be improved in some way.

The map at the trailhead now has directional arrows that show the "normal" riding direction.
