Those smiley guys usually show up when you cut/paste text into a post. There are multiple "standards" for LineFeed/CarriageReturn.

Well, I don't see them on my screen, but I did cut and paste the text into the message so I guess that would explain what Porter is seeing. :p:p

Sorry about that. At least I know now.

We will not have a trail work session this week. The first section has been completely flagged. A clearing crew will be finishing up a good portion of the first loop and Tim Wegner will be out today using a machine to create a nice bench cut. The finishing work on that section of trail that Tim plows will be saved for REI's National Trails Day.

Our next work session will take place on Wednesday, June 2 at 6:00pm. We work on the final two trails of section one. This may include clearing, moving some dirt, etc. There are also a couple areas where we just need to basically rake and smooth out without a bench cut or a minor bench cut.

The past 3 weeks have been focused on trail layout design and planning for NTD. If you haven't signed up for NTD, please do so. REI's National Trails Day Event is scheduled for June 5th, 2010 from 9:00am-1:00pm. The trail layout is coming along nice. I think everyone will really enjoy what we have so far. A few fast rolling sections, a couple tight windy areas, some climbing and a few other fun spots and this is only a small section of the proposed 6.5 miles. Exciting stuff!!

If you would like to be added to the trail work email list for Carver Lake Park please send me a PM with your email address. I'll make sure you get weekly trail updates.Thank you!

Special thanks to Bob Shepherd for his help with trail layout. Tim Wegner for his help with layout and volunteer machine labor. These two guys have been extremely valuable. Please thank them the next time you bump into those guys on the trail.

Our next trailwork session will take place on Wednesday, June 2 at 6:00pm, meet at the main parking lot. We have some rake and ride areas and a couple other spots that must be finished up by hand. A good portion of the trail will be left alone for national trails day.

The past few weeks have been focused on trail layout design and planning for National Trail Day. If you haven't signed up for NTD, please do so if you can. REI's National Trails Day Event is scheduled for June 5th, 2010 from 9:00am-1:00pm. Registration is free and includes a light breakfast and a really nice wicking t-shirt. No worries Shawn. I saved a very steep bench cut for you. ;)

We had a great Session last night once again. Buffed out a bunch of rake and ride through a twisty section of the trail. We should be all set for NTD this weekend. I'm hoping for good weather on Saturday.

Our next trailwork session will take place on Wednesday, June 9 at 6:00pm, meet at the main parking lot. Please post up if you can make it. I'll have a sign posted on the boulevard of the parking lot on the trail work location. We will be working in the area north of the lake, west of the main parking lot and east of Century Ave. The main focus will be finishing up the beautiful bench cut Ted W. and his group of volunteers worked on during NTD. The bench cut is on a steep section and needs some additional dirt placed around the rock slab retaining wall they incorporated into the bench cut. We also have a couple more trees to armor and we can buff out the trail a bit more to get rid of any high spots that will catch water if time allows. Lots to do, so please come out and help throw some dirt if you can.

National Trail Day turned out to be a lot of fun and very successful. We acoomplished everything scheduled for the day and beat the rain that started a little after 12pm. Thank you to everyone that helped out on Saturday. If you didn't make it, try to catch a trail session soon to check out what we finished up during NTD and get dirty yourself.

We will hold-off on trail work for this week. Get outside and enjoy what I am hoping will be a nice beautiful sunny evening (It’s been a while).

I have a group (Tree Trust) that will be clearing the final areas of section 1 tomorrow and then slowly move into clearing the next section of the park. Next week we will have plenty of rake and ride areas to complete and also some bench cuts to work on. If you can, please plan to attend the next trail work session on June 23 - 6:00pm. We will meet in the main parking lot.

Currently, the city is trying to determine how to proceed with completing the next sections of trail. My guess is that we will be renting a ditch witch to plow the main trail tread with crews coming in afterwards to complete the finishing work. If this is how we move forward, we will be clearing as much trail as possible before renting the ditch witch. The ditch witch will be used to plow the main trail tread and then we will follow that with hand tools to finish the trail. The city has two groups that will help with clearing and finishing work throughout the summer. The Wednesday night volunteers will help with some clearing, but mostly finishing work and building areas of the trail that need more attention, expertise and detail.

Hi all-

We are back at it this week with a trail work session scheduled for Wednesday, June 23 at 6:00pm. We will once again meet at the main parking lot and walk into the trail. The area we are working on is located on your left as you drive into the park from Century Ave. We have plenty of rake and ride areas to complete, some bench cuts to work on and some additional clearing around the power tower section

This past week I scheduled two crews, ICWC and the Tree Trust, to clear out the final sections of area 1. We are getting close to completing this section. If we can get all or the majority of the rake and ride areas finished up, then we will only have to do finishing work on area 1 once a machine goes through and clears the main trail tread. This section will open once completed, until then please do not ride it. I noticed some tracks this past week and it's too soft and not a complete loop yet. We'll be riding on it soon so hang tight until then.

Hope we have a good turnout this week. See you out there on Wednesday night!

Reed

The trail is in good shape. Reed and I walked all of it last night after we finished flagging a bunch of new stuff. There are a few spots where we need to throw some grass seed down and add some slight bench cutting but other than that the trail has held up to the massive amount of rain we have gotten in the southeast metro. Wednesday should be a good session. We will focus on some small rake-n-ride sections but will also be benching sections of trail 4 so that we can plan for a section of bridge that will be need to be built soon. Hope to see a good group out there tomorrow!

Its raining hard and has been for a couple hours in Woodbury today. I was out checking in on the Tree Trust around 10am (they got caught in the rain and were soaked, but they thought it was cool so thats good) and the section they are clearing is out in the open, soaked and midly puddling. The rest of the trail is extremely wet as well. If the rain stops early things might be okay, but it will defintely be wet/soft/muddy in spots if not the entire trail. Not sure how well trail work will go. This is my first down pour the day of trail work. Any thoughts?
