Working both mornings this weekend if anyone has time to come out and lend a hand. Meeting at 7:30 in the big parking lot. Will be building the last piece of trail going out towards the open field section. Bring gloves, loppers if you have them, and yard rakes. I will provide the pulaski and mcleod tools for actually cutting and shaping the trail. We will plan to be out there until about 10:30. If you can't make it for the whole time just show up when you can. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I plan on being out there rain or shine tomorrow morning. In fact a little moisture might make the dirt easier to work with. If it's coming down so hard you can't see I will may reasses. If I cancel it will be posted here by 7 am.

unrelated but you are the one with the knowledge, what is the official status of the trail projects at mayowood, indian heights and carley. I heard alot about indian heights on the rasc sight last fall but haven't heard anything this spring, are the trails open and ridable or still a work in progress?

In order
Mayowood: developed a preliminary trail plan and outline that covered both sides of the paved trail to county RD 8. We haven't taken it to the county board though because we went ahead with Indian heights and didn't want to spread our volunteer base to thin. Once finished with Indian Heights, mayowood will be brought forward and we should have good support for it.
Indian Heights: we have approval and we rough cut the main trail corridor of about 4 miles last fall. In a couple of weeks there will be a servey done of the plant life that could be impacted and once we have that done and whatever small adjustments need to be made we will start bench cutting and what have you. So we are looking at a start date around the first couple weekends of June. The main loop will be about 4 miles and there will be an inner expert only loop added after that.
Carley: The local DNR rejected our first proposal of a trail system on both sides of the dirt road going to the river and then over the river and into the hills on the other side. Instead they put a plan forth that would have trails on just the top south east portion of the park. The space constraints would probably only leave us with a small amount of trail and we can't commit volunteer hours to a trail system that would be too small to attract riders anyway. We are planning on going back out there and looking at the area again so a compromise might be reached, but for now it's dead in the water. Luckily for riders in the plainview area it sounds like trails may go in at Coffee Mill so they will have a great option not to far away.

riding, riding, and more riding. The trail heading out to the field section isn't done yet, but there are some significant changes out there to the corkscrew trail (second singletrack section). These new parts need to be ridden in badly. Like riding them over and over and over.

I think I slowed Matt down. He got more done on Saturday than we did on Sunday. We cut out a few sections that were prone to wash out and were rooty. The new bench cut sections are soft so ride "gently" over them to pack them down.
The trail is still unfinished so more work will be needed to be ready for the 50.

Definately didn't slow me down any. We were going through tougher underbrush and steeper camber. Also I worked for like 6 hours on saturday which is why it seemed like I got more done.
