Yes, but the North Loop won't open until cleanup and planting is done. Hopefully soon......we will post as soon as the trail is open.

Is the newly paved section of the Luce Line open?

the paved section is not open either, I rode by today and there was still a trail closed sign posted at the entrance.

My homebrew studs are sad to see pavement on the access road. :(

Mmmm....Fresh asphalt! Wish I had a nice long board. Or knew how to ride one.

Paved and "Trail Closed" sign/tape was not there this AM.

I think they're still decorating. They were painting the obligatory warnings on the road yesterday and need to put stripes down. I foresee a few benches, map kiosks, etc. as well. Does anyone know if they're putting lights in? As far as they're concerned, they have all summer and their whole budget, so they will use up both.

Correct.

The north loop is still closed to mountain biking.

Is it safe to assume that the singage removal means the Luce Line itself is open?

As of 10:04 this morning, the official word is still no.

Three Rivers owns and operates the Luce Line and will be determining when to open the Luce Line.

Like I stated elsewhere; EVERYONE is already using the trail. Walkers, bladers, and I saw over 200 bikes on it yesterday between 4-5:30, and the cops were there and weren't stopping anybody. Why would it be closed to the people not riding it (us) and open to the people that were commuting on it. Kind of backasswards isn't it?

We do not know the answer to this. All we know is that we are currently being told is that the Luce Line is still closed and that we can't open the North Loop yet. We are in contact with the MPRB and Three Rivers and according to them, signage "Trail Closed" is still up and the Luce Line is closed.

From what I heard, painting and some planting still need to be done.

That is all we know. As soon as we get official word, we will post.

Thanks for your understanding.

Yesterday the new paved trail was barricaded, with more yellow tape than i have seen all summer. This morning all the barricades were gone, not just moved out of the way, but gone, the tape is gone and the entry has been swept, sort of inviting like. So maybe the right hand does not know what the left is doing, but for the average rider, this trail is open. If they wanted it to remain closed they would have kept up the yellow tape, or put a closed sign up,

With regards to the police not doing anything, unless it was park police, this is out of their jurisdiction, and they could probably care less if someone was riding a trail that to the untrained MORC eye is open

" they could probably care less if someone was riding a trail"
It WAS the Park Police and they were ON the new trail in a car. They stopped to admire a wall and then drove off onto the dirt trail. I knew one of the officers from prior dog enforcement issues in the park.

3RPD and the MPRB want the trail to remain closed.

Despite how internal dysfunction may manifest itself out in the park, we are being told by the folks in charge of the project, the folks who are the *only* people with the authority to open the trail, that the trail is closed.

We are volunteers and are not the ones who closed the trail. Three Rivers Park District and the MPRB worked together to close the trail.

We as MOCA (volunteers who have full time jobs and other lives) have emailed to find out answers from both 3RPD and the MPRB. We are being told the trails are still closed at this time. Until we hear different, we can not officially announce that the trails are open.

So please hang in there. When we get official word, we will announce it publicly. Until then, the trails are closed as far as we are concerned. We can not open the trails because of what people post in a forums or by what people see on the trail........only when we are told by the proper people in charge that they are open.

So as much as you complain......there is not much we can do for you at this time. We will announce when the trail is open as soon as we get OFFICIAL word.

All I am saying is that for the average rider, not the MORC cognoscenti, but just a rider on the parkway, and i saw this trailhead i would not even question whether or not is was open. There are no signs, there is no yellow tape, but there is a nice map showing the connection to the Luce line (how inviting is that).

Like I mentioned, if Three Rivers wants the trail to remain closed, they need to actually close it, rather than rely on osmosis to make sure everyone knows to stay off.

And all we are saying is that we can't officially post that the trail is open until we are told to do so.

So what next? Post more in these forums and maybe something will change?.....:banghead::banghead:

Sounds like a communication breakdown. If the no biking signs and tape are down, that's good enough fer me. I'm gonna hit it when I get back in town tomorrow! Group ride anyone?

So if it looks open and there's no indication that it is closed except right here and you feel like faking ignorance and riding... why do you need to post your intentions right here?? :eyeroll:

Post 18 says: "all we are saying is that we can't officially post that is it open until we are told to do so".

Sounds like the big wigs aren't aware of what's actually happening on the ground (not surprising). There's all sorts info all over the interweb- good & bad, but none of it changes the reality of what is out on the trail.

I agree there appears to be a failure to communicate but I'm just saying you don't really need to post that you are riding when it is stated right here in the same thread that it isn't officially open.
I'm sure you won't be the only one there but can't you just keep it to yourself?

Wow.. why would you even bother to post here if you are not going to listen to the people that actually build and maintain the trail? They're saying it's closed. How is that not good enough for you? :banghead:

why are people always arguing on this MORC board?
way more than the other one's.
Theo is cool, but it's becoming more of a frustration.

Why are the off road cyclists relations with everyone else in this city so fragile?

And why are people always fighting on this board?! WTF?

I am closing this thread. Mostly because it's stupid and mostly because some of you are just posting because you must not have anything better to do.

The questions have been answered and we will announce the official opening of the trail when we hear from those in charge of the Luce Line project.

Thanks!
