Hello forum members! Long time lurker, first time poster. I've lived in Mankato for a year now and finally got around to hitting some of the trails.

I paid the $8 fee for Mt. Kato and didn't really like the run (especially considering it was my first run in awhile so I was out of shape). I also found this other trail just south of Mt. Kato about one mile off of a state trail.

Does anybody know what this trail is called? The access point from the road is right by a bridge. A river runs to the west of it with a man-made lake to the east. It looks at first like an old truck path but I went on it for awhile and it was pretty fun. I noticed a bunch of parked cars around the access point and I assumed it could be some of you all.

I plan on heading back there this morning. The first time I was there was with my girlfriend and 5-year-old daughter, so I didn't get as much time as I'd like to play around.

Thanks and maybe I'll see you all on the trails!

Mike, that trail is the indian lake conservation area, the majority of the "Single Track" is horse trail, most of which lies on private land. for good riding your best bet is to head up to 7mile park off 169, or come on down to Wells. 30min south on 22, and ride grandmas trail.

PM me some time and we'll go ride.

EDIT: upon further inspection of your post, i believe you are refering to the ATV trail off the intersection of 66 and 90.

Yeah, in all my excitement the first time of finding at least *something* off trail, I thought it was for mountain biking.

Upon further inspection this morning, it's only a ATV trail like you said. I'll try to make it down to Wells for Grandma's trail once I get into some better shape. You all talk so much about it I feel like it's a right of passage to ride on it!

meh, dont stop riding the ATV trail, its not a bad little ride,

no need to be in better shape, if you can ride mount kato, you can ride grandmas trail, i might be headed down there tomorrow evening, so if you want to go, let me know.

if your refering to the atv trail along the river, it is a fun little ride. I usually work it into my road rides. It goes both dirrections under the hwy 90 bridge. If you follow it to the East for about a mile it and take the right fork it will come out across the top of a earth dam and cone out to hwy 66 by Mt kato. Otherwise it will go down to the river and kinda fade away. Its one of those trails that may or may not be on private land, but I have never had a issue riding it for the last few years.

As tim mentioned theres also the indian lake trail, which is about 1.5 miles of pretty nice single track. Which again may or may not be on private land, I have been riding it once and awhile for the last couple years. I was only told once I shouldn't be riding on it, because it was durring hunting season and many people hunt those woods.

As tim said get ahold of one of us and we can show you some fun ridin gin the area. I just found a couple miles of trail along the MN river the other night.

Ha! :) I guess we've done our work of promotion if you feel that way about Grandma's!

Yeah, you'll have to come try it out. Grandma's Group Ride is the 27th, too!

I haven't had a chance to ride 7-Mile, those ATV trails or other little bits up near Mankato, but I have ridden Mt. Kato and as far as I know Grandma's really is the only trail in the area with "new school" singletrack. We've got rock gardens, log piles, narrow, tight stuff, a drop... Hopefully, before the 27th we'll have a few berms and a skinny at the very least.

The loop's not quite a full mile, so we're concentrating on flow and features. Just like yo gramma, it's short and sweet.
