So I have (had) about a 1 year old Park floor pump that started leaking air. Getting an MTB tire to 35 psi was an exercise in patience. Pump fast and air would be leaking out of the elbow bends by the guage. Slow and steady, eventually I'd hit the mark. But 110 psi on the road bike? Forget it. The pump would go to about 50 and quit. The place where I bought it wasn't sure how to warranty it. Strange, but OK, it happens.

Then I noticed a lock ring at the bottom had cracked and thought that might be the cause. Called Park, had a new lock ring sent, and tried her out. Great service on their end. Installed new lock ring. Still leaked air and didn't have enough oomph to hit 40 psi.

Today I walked into the lobby of Park, pump in hand. I mean, what the heck? I only live about 15 minutes from them and I'm always on the road for my job. I told the receptionist what was going on and asked her if they get people coming in all the time with faulty parts. Turned out I'm the first  (trendsetter, you know).

She calls John, who comes out and listens to my story. He takes my pump and says he'll be right back. After about 10 minutes in the lobby looking at some great bike books, John comes back. He says my pump will now hit the 110 mark, but still leaks air. And he's not sure why. So he hands me a brand new, similar model, pump. John says he might be able to figure out what's wrong with about a half hour's worth of tinkering, but he didn't want me to wait that long. I told him he could take his time with it and send it to me when done, that I wasn't in it for a free pump. I just wanted to know what was going on and could they fix it. I even said I'd take my old pump if it could be fixed. Nothing doing.

John takes me back in their shop area to explain to me what was going on and why he was giving me a new pump. He wasn't happy sending me out with, or sending back, my old one. They're keeping it to evaluate it.

He then proceeds to ask if I want the nickel tour. HELL YES! He spent half an hour showing me around, introducing me to people and giving me the history of Park Tool. Turns out John is the production manager. I saw the first tool stand they ever made. Whoa! Bulky, archaic and UGLY.

Talk about great service. I mean GREAT! Not only do they fix my problem, I get to see the innards of Park Tool. I haven't been this happy since I got the tour of Hed Cycling (I live 1/4 mile from their old shop).

I will always and forever buy Park whenever I need a tool. Oh yeah, they gave me a brand new parts catalog, too.

Sorry for the long post but when someone goes above and beyond to make some schlub off the street happy like that, they deserve a post like this.

Kind of makes me wish I had a faulty park tool.

I have broken 2 park tools that were totally my fault and and they replaced both of them for free.

Park Tool has my business for life.

+ 3. I have broken a couple parts on my pump (never one of their tools). I shoot them a quick e-mail and the part is in the mail FOC, no questions asked!

Great service!

I almost forgot about this one, I busted some of the o-rings off my hex tools and they sent me a replacement set the next day.

Too expensive. Do what I do, just carry a vice grip. It's like duct tape, you can fix everything with vice grips:)

Tom... we need to ride bubby. Haven't seen you in almost a year.

I had the floor pump hose that runs from the pump to the guage crack open. They sent me a replacement no questions asked.

Don't you mean the parts are to expensive to use the wrong tool and risk breaking them?

Using vice grips....I bet the bike shop mechs love all the business you bring them.:p

I think I better send them an email. My Park Tool pump has been a POS since the day I bought.

And you can clamp it onto your seatpost and have it with you on all your rides!

Park is awesome. They custom made me a couple of BMX specific tools when I was at Twin City BMX in the 90's. Those tools became part of their product line.......way cool!

Not only will Park Tool give you the best customer service on the planet, if you need a tool that doesn't exist.......let them know and chances are they will make one.

The vice grip statement was funny. Remember when you were a kid... a pair of vice grips was like the Holy Grail of tools to work on a bike.

Yep, I remember those days. They worked great for stripped out bolts. The funny part is the bolts were stripped because a Vice Grip was used on them.....:banghead:

I tried replacing the proper tool with vice grips way back in grade school.. one seriously smashed and bloodied finger due to improper use set me straight. :hit:

I forgot how sweet vice grips are...they were the only tool I used on my first bmx bike as a kid, I didn't know there was another tool.

Didn't any of your parents own proper tools? ;)

Some of us can remember back to when vice grips didn't have that secondary unlocking lever. As a kid, I remember putting on winter gloves (padding) before trying to unlock a tight pair of vice grips. Once those sucker unlocked, the handle would fly looking for unshielded knuckles.

I'm sure the Park Tool tour was much more impressive than the HED one. ;)

Great story!

FYI-vice grips were made in Nebraska until just this past week (they maybe have been invented there as well, i'm not sure) and are pretty sweet. I'm also from Nebraska and i'm pretty sweet.

Ipso facto, things from Nebraska are often sweet.

Park tools do rock. I won't buy any other tools. There pizza cutter and bottle opener might be the most used tool I own. Its cool that they are a MN company.:etard:

There was a kid at Theo that appeared to have a pair of vice grips as a seat post clamp. Tool AND bike part.

Yep. They all say "Snap-On". And now they're in my tool box at work. They don't make any bike specific tools though. I wish they did.

But Park does make good stuff, and cost less than Snap-On. I wish I got a tour.

Gotta love Snap-On. Anyone have a contact over at Park? Maybe if we ask really nice we can get a MORC group tour of Park?(followed by beers somewhere) ;)
