Let's do this!
I rode the Murphy TT last week, good times. I think it's time for a TTT as well. I have pro timing lined up, we'll need some course marshalls, etc.
I'm proposing a start at the main trialhead - then you go do the short loop, come back and do the main loop - two laps should give us a sub 30 minute winning time.
Who's in? Let's shoot for a late September/early October event.

I'd be in for that - sounds fun!
Where exactly is the main trailhead for Theo - at the gate that goes to the main loop? Do you think 2 laps around the big loop would make for a good TT, so we stay on singletrack the whole time?

I consider the entrance at the Y on the gravel road the main entry. I would say go east on the gravel road, over the bridge - do the short loop, come back then enter the main loop. Do it twice. It's a bit short, but Theo is a sprint.
I'm guessing a winning time under 35 minutes.
THUMP!

I would do it...just to provide a slow time for the curve.
I think it would be MUCH easier if it was two laps of the North Loop starting at that trailhead. Dealing with both loops, bike paths, etc. I would think would be a pain.

Sure, I just got a PM from Shad - I guess we better get a permit, Jen gave the OK last time I asked - we'll probably have to give part of the entry fee back to the MPRB.
The rest can go to MOCA. I'll volunteer to run it - I have Matt Anderson lined up for timing, but I need to see what his schedule is like now that he's running events for the Qube.

Awesome!
I get to hide randomly in the woods and pulaski anyone who thinks skidding corners makes them faster, right? ;) :D

I see what you're saying but I think it'd be wicked cool to do the south loop, or at least part of it, and then have to sprint up the path and then bomb the access road. Sounds like fun!
The first right-hand curve of the access road would be a good spot to photograph mini-drifts!

+1 for including the south loop.
If we get a permit, we can make sure we have proper signage and flagging to keep ped and other cyclist traffic safe from speedy nut cases on bikes.

I am sharpening mara's pulaski this week.

A pain? Maybe. We'd certainly need a couple people guiding traffic to keep from wiping out civilians, but it would be a fun post to work.
I do think it would be fun and would make for more interesting spectating.

If it happens on a day I can be there I would be happy to course marshal. If that helps you use the south loop.

This is a fabulous idea! I didn't think we were allowed to have races at Theo.
It has to have a sweet name (like Mara's Pulaski Death Race).

The MPRB has always been open to a time trial format; a mass start race wouldn't work for the obvious reasons.
This year they may be even more receptive than usual. http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:SEEuIVs-NWwJMM:http://images.acclaimimages.com/_gallery/_SM/0093-0604-1914-5638_SM.jpg (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://images.acclaimimages.com/_gallery/_SM/0093-0604-1914-5638_SM.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.acclaimimages.com/_gallery/_pages/0093-0604-1914-5638.html&h=300&w=300&sz=42&hl=en&start=4&um=1&usg=__hFOpQe1h4yC0wiWz8f2bN1EDroc=&tbnid=SEEuIVs-NWwJMM:&tbnh=116&tbnw=116&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dcartoon%2Bmoney%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26 rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox%26rlz%3D1I7SUNA%26sa%3DN)

Yes, we have discussed a Time Trail many times. What we lacked was someone willing to take on the race organizer role, set it up, and run the race. If Shawn is willing to do that part.......we are more than happy to help him get it going......:)

OK - I of all people should have asked for permission first... but that's no fun :;)
Anyway, guess I'll have to go to a board meeting now. I'll should see Shad and Mara this weekend at the 5-oh, maybe we can put together a plan over few brews and get Matt to sign off at the next meeting.
I'm sure there will be others there who will want to weigh in, so we'll have a plan soon.
What am I getting myself into? As long as I get to race too.

Dude....a time trial will totally be fun. I know we seem to always have to deal with the Red Tape, but no biggie......we can do this and make it legit! It will be a total blast!!!!
Thanks for stepping up to do this Shawn!
I will start by saying......"Good luck beating Bill O'Reilly"....he may be up there in age, but he is one of the fastest at Theo and everyone knows it.

Guess I will have to bring out the hockey pads and my jousting shield. Mara, bring me a pair of Shad's short-shorts so I can go uber-fast!

+1 and he can probably beat most at theo on his road bike.
BTW, a TT at Theo is very cool! You can count me in for help.

Shawn, get going on the 'Check and give Bill a run for his money!
BTW, i'm in to help and/or race as well. This may give me a goal by which to SS the Kona.
If I'm in town that weekend, I'll be helping out on the volunteer side of the race.

Alright, gott'a pick a date - I need to check in with the Mafia's Don to make sure we don't double up on other fall events.

I'd like to both help marshal the course and have a shot at the tt. Perhaps if the interest is great, we could spell each other, split into 'waves' or whatever. I'm in if I don't kill myself before then: I keep finding new ways to endo and biff.
Not to throw down the gauntlet, but I've been able to easily do 42 min TT's (twice north loop, to south loop once around and back to the beginning) I am sure the fast guys can get more than eight minutes out of me. My technical skills are not that good. I predict a winning time approaching 30 minutes if the trail is fast that day.

Is this still happening?? Anyone have any info? Shawn?

I wondering if going between the loops is a good idea even if the race is staged like Murphys was. There were issues earlier this year with run ins where you enter the trail and Im thinking that if someone is going for a fast time they will fly out of there while a slower rider is entering or someone not even racing is entering.

I'm sure a course marshal would be posted at the gate to monitor traffic in and out.
Possibly even get the gate opened to limit head on encounters?
rihaha
09-17-2008, 11:35 AM
Its not the gate thats an issue but the 25-50ft of trail that takes you off the ski trail and into the meeting area before starting laps on the north loop.
If this gets going this year, we'll probably have at least one meeting to work out the specifics. Any plan will consider rider safety and be approved by both the MOCA board and the MPRB.
Until we get a date and a firm commitment from our race director, worrying about the little things is merely a fun way to not work at work. You'll know as soon as those pieces fall into place and we can start hammering out the details.

How about second weekend in Nov.? As we heard at the mtg. last night there are lots of things going on in Oct.
How about second weekend in Nov.?
Wheels is working on finding a time that doesn't conflict with any major planned events, MORC or otherwise.
Theo has a large number of riders who would have fun at a time trial but do not hang out on the forums. We'd like to find a time that works for everyone.

Word. Maybe it could be the 1st of Nov. as well if HFF isn't that day.

I think there is a chance that there is a "MORC" Halloween ride that night. I havent heard for sure yet, but I thought I would at least let you know that there is talk about it.

OK - we're getting there. Lot's of cross races going on (too many as usual) - and when our timing guy Matt A. is not on the road promoting Q(ube) he's doing timing for the cross races.
I'm working on it, I'd rather do a fall ride than a spring event - so I'll keep on it.
Mara is right though - this is a big hometown event, so we have to have our ducks in row and no conflicts.

I'll sign up for the 9" travel, 50lb, Downhill bike class!!!
I would prefer to only run the main loop though. That bike does not haul butt down the sidewalk... but it does in the corners!

Can't we have at least a fat kids class (Clydesdale) for those of us over the 200 class? ;) JK I am all for the everybody vs everybody!!! I vote for a No-class time trial.

Let us know how we can help, Wheels! This would undoubtedbly get a fantastic turn out. Could you run the TT the day before the Theo CX race? It would be great to spend a weekend racin' n rubbin' at Teddy Wirth.

Is there going to be a women's class for the time trial? I'd be game for this.

Is this for this year, or from last year?
Is this for this year, or from last year?
This is from last year.
There are currently no plans to hold a time trial at Theo. If someone out there wants to step up and take responsibility for organizing and directing a time trial, please contact mara and/or Shad electronically, at a trailwork session, or by attending a MOCA meeting on the second Wednesday of the month. It would be a lot of fun, but it would also be a lot of logisticaly work.
