Folks,
Do any of you have any experience w/ threadless stem adaptors?
Something like this:

I'm thinking about throwing riser bars onto my Kona but the quill stem on the bike now doesn't have a removable face plate so i'm pretty sure I won't be able to thread a riser through the bend.

Isn't this what sledgehammers are for?
I have never used one of those, but I know they work quite well for what you want to do. All it really does is turn your threadless stem into a quill stem, pretty simple. You still have to adjust the headset the old skool way though.

I bet you'll find you'll get the riser bar on there just fine. Maybe need to slightly open up the stem face with a flat screwdriver.

OK, lets say I do get a 2" riser in there, how will the geometry and handling be changed from stock?
Here are a couple of pics of the bike. You can sort-of see the stem length:

It's too small for me, which is why I want riser bars (the seatpost length is fine):

Geometry (http://www.konaretro.com/articles/catalogues/1997/97Page29.jpg) It's a 19" Muni-Mula (top-left)

I put a riser bar on my Wheeler with a quill stem. I scuffed it up a bit but some of that was boneheadedness on my part.

The geometry won't change. What will change is your body position on the bike. Looking at the picture I think you would enjoy riser bars. They will bring up your arms a little and allow you to ride with your elbows bent some and a lot less weight on your hands.
In all honesty, you just need to try them and see if it works for you. But I think you will like them.
