Does anyone have any advice on which UST tires are the best? I would like 2.3 on the front and 2.1 on the back. I ride hillside 95% of the time, so something that would help give the best chances of hooking up in sand would be nice.

I'm looking for traction/durability over race/light XC tires.

All of the reviews on mtbr.com are universally bad for tires, so I really have no idea what tires will get the job done.

Thanks,

Seth

I have been ridin michelin xcr dry2's for a few years and they have treated me very well at hillside. Fairly light, low rolling resistance and hook up pretty good.

I've used both Michelin and Hucthington and both have worked well with no problems.

When it is dry small block 8s work for me ,but if it gets to wet they don't work. Nevegals are probably a more all around tire.

Thanks for all of the replies!

After some more internet sleuthing, I've decided to go with the specialized 2bliss.

Eskar Control 2Bliss Tire - 2.3 front
The Captain Control 2Bliss Tire - 2.0 rear

I'll post a review after a few rides in case anyone else is following the thread.

More than I spend on car tires...uhg...

Make sure you also pickup a bottle of Stan's Sealant to put in those tires.

The stans is key.
Let us know what you think of the 2Bliss tires. I almost got them myself. Ended up with some Bontragers, and really like them.

The tires are ok. I thought they were great the first ride, but after a few they seem just like the nevagals when they were new. They seem to be having trouble holding the bead on landing, but that might be because I'm running too low pressure.

I'm using older Specilaized fast trak s-works UST rear and new captain 2.0 2 bliss front on Crossmax SLR's. The Spec sealant is crap. Recently switched to Stans and those thin 2 bliss sidewalls sealed right up (took and hour and shaking w/ the Spec sealant. If I was a freerider or rode a lot of rocks I prob would not use the 2 bliss but I'm a xc guy. I did get a sidewall flat at Red wing race in the 'quarry' :banghead:but that was pre-stans and it was a small hole.

I have decided to use a bit higher pressure and it worked well at the border battle. prob 35 in back, 32 in front, I think I actually am getting better traction at these higher pressures, esp w/ the captains.

I've tried some Maxxis, Hutchinson, Panaracer and WTB tires over the last few years. So far, the best UST tire for MN trails, IMO, is the WTB Weirwolf. I know that's not the fanciest tire out there, but it worked great for anything I threw at it, was light, and had low rolling resistance.
Let us know how those special-ed tires are workin' for ya. They've always looked nice but the price scared me away.

I have ridden my Nevegal 2.1 UST front and Small Block 8 2.1 UST rear combo for approximately one month. I am using no sealant and these tires hold air great so far. I have been running these at 30-32psi and so far the traction and grip is awesome. I will probably remove the small block eight if the ground gets very damp as I think this tire will pack with mud pretty bad. This is my first experince with Kenda and I am happy so far.;)
